Thre seems to be lots more proven plug ins also...i'll stay with 2 since i like the good ol Sony skin for it.

Do ya'll run the winamp agent? if you do, would it be a good idea to run it as a service?

I like Winamp2 skins more, even though one of the features they emphasize for Winamp3 is skins. And don't say use winamp2 skins on winamp3, because the playlist is all screwed.

Winamp2: smaller, more efficient, stable, random skins, search, etc.
Winamp3: looks cool...

that should about sum it up... :D

yeah... i can't believe they took that out

That's the only reason I've never been able to stay away from Winamp for too long. The search feature is just too good :)

I guess I'm the only one who has never had Winamp 3 crash on me. Even amidst all the "bloat" starting winamp and hitting play still seems to work fine.

Ford Pintos don't explode every time they get in an accident, just most of the time ;)

Winamp 3.x for the most part is a dead product. Only one person is currently working on it, and thats not likely to last.

Nullsoft is currently working on Winamp 5. Winamp 5 is Winamp 2 at the core, with Winamp 3's skin support. All of Winamp 2.x's plugin APIs are being brought up to date as well. All of these new features in Winamp 5 are added via plugins, so they can be easily disabled if you do not want them.

You can already get the Winamp 5 Beta, it loads about 90% of all Winamp 3 skins, though Winamp 3 specific features do not work obviously.

Winamp 2.92 was a internal BETA build that was never supposed to get out. Winamp 2.95 was released by Nullsoft for about 2 hours, they pulled it due to some patent concerns with the AAC encoder it included. 2.95 was effectively canceled. The newest offcial version is 2.91
