Long story short, I disabled ACPI in BIOS before I installled win2k pro. Now when I shut down, the computer does not automatically power off. It just gives me the "It is now safe to shutdown Windows 2000" or something to that effect.
I went back into the BIOS and Enabled ACPI but it still does the same thing. It's not a huge deal to me but I'd rather it auto power off. I haven't hardly installed anything else on the pc so it would not be too much of a problem to reinstall windows. Just want to see if there's a way to re-enable the auto off?
Also, what else did I lose as far as features, etc. with not installing ACPI? I haven't noticed anything else but it has to do more than that.

Ahh crud, i forgot how to re-enable ACPI in win2k, it was such a long while ago. Search the GH, under "ACPI," i think you should be able to find what you need.

I tried that but didn't actually come up with a way to enable it other than formatting.

So am I correct to say that since I disabled it before ther install I will not get the pc to auto power down?
Is there any other setting in the BIOS under the ACPI screen (or any other) that will let me enable this one feature?
I guess it looks like I'll be formatting again real soon.

Hmm, i did it the method without formatting- without any problems btw. Did you try searching Operating Systems too?

I don't think you can regain ACPI functionality without doing a clean install of Win2K due to the way it assigns the HAL (hardware abstraction layer) which it completes during the install. I've seen all the threads about the horror stories of ACPI under Win2K but frankly, I never had a lick of trouble with it. I've since moved on to XP Pro though (even better at ACPI than Win2K).

Disable it and then go into the APM tab under power management and click the check box option (only one on that tab I think since I forget what its called... that will get you powering off software-wise so long as your computer is newer than the LX or BX chipset or something like - basically make sure your chipset and BIOS are newer than 5-6 years ago)

having some acpi probs myself with win2k right now on an epox 8kha+ damn thing won't soft power off and it causes driver errors (this is all run in spec although i get no errors and 100% stability with acpi disabled and using APM).... I've always disabled acpi since it causes me too many problems... who gives a rats ass about WOL/WOM functionality for their home pc? just use APM... its better and you can set the power down or screen or hard drive spin down options from windows and they are actually reliable since there is not a hardware and software conflict/
