so, did amd axe the 900 series onboard gpu solutions?
1) Well... I am fed up with HD42xx graphics, want a step-up in this department. Why do you need the 9 series and onboard? The benefit would be 6gbps sata and usb 3.0, both of which you can get on an 880 board. The 9 series brings BD support, but I don't think many BD users will be needing onboard gpu.
I think AMDs thoughts were, BD+good xfire and Llano + good on-chip gpu
So if you are looking for a good onboard solution, pick up an FM1 system

Problem is, AMD on-die graphics is limited to FM1 at the moment. To answer the original question, YES.
AMD won't put any more R&D effort into video-on-the-chipset, it's all on the CPU die now. 880G is as good as it'll ever get.

AMD have been very silent with regards to their chipset roadmap. I am worried, slightly. Looks like AM3+ may as well be their last performance socket. FM2 is the way to go, you reckon?
