Any 6-core AMD CPU coming to AM2+/AM3?

Anyone have any information of a 6-core AMD CPU coming to AM2+/AM3?

I'd like to upgrade the CPU to a 45nm to get a bit more OC headroom (I can get about 3.2+ GHz right now but even watercooling becomes a bit of a problem at 1.45v for this Phenom I). However, I don't want to upgrade to another quad if there's a hexa core coming within the 2010 timeframe.

dont quote me here but I am sure I seen something about it when searching for next years roadmap why not try google'ing it.
It will be for am3 only and not am2 at all if I remember correctly.
I know amdzone.com will know for sure try there!!

You probably won't get a whole lot of headroom out of the Istanbul based hex-cores if they do come to desktop, considering the fact that the 2.7GHz Shanghai's are 75W and teh 2.4GHz Istanbul's are 115W

yep thats what it was socket "F" sorry about that I said not to quote me. 😉
if you are looking for more power why not get a 940BE or 955BE both will work on your current mobo..

I know...I just don't want to spend even more money on a quad since I haven't even had this CPU for a year.

but you could sell it in the seller section and then pay the difference.
You would see a huge jump in power and speed but if you want to hang on I dont blame ya money dont grow on tree's these days right!!

Yeah I might try selling it...see what I get. Thanks.

You could also just wait it out. Overclocking performance of AMD chips should go up overtime (as they introduce new models). More importantly, they might get faster speeds on the L3 cache. I've seen some benches with the L3 cache at 2.8Ghz and it can provide some huge gains.
I think AMD has >4Ghz chips planned for early next year.
