I don't know why someone would trust a knockoff $10 cable to properly charge a $649 phone. And it's not like the dock connector that has existed for years such that it's been refined either.
Buyer beware.
The rest of us use $1 cables to charge $500+ phones, and $10 cables to jumpstart $30,000 cars.
Your argument is simply not valid.
The real question is why would anyone buy a product from a company as cynical as apple in the first place?Dumb cables, not smart ones with actual chips in them. Cloning a jumper cable takes two seconds.
I'm not saying that the Apple cables are a ripoff, I'm just saying that the quality of the knockoff cables isn't worth spending ANY money on them right now. There are a few articles where people have taken them apart and it's some pretty shoddy work.
Here's an article where Gizmodo took one of those cables apart: http://gizmodo.com/5954542/china-fi...ret-iphone-5-cable-here-come-the-cheap-clones

You're right, the real issue is that it is so far beyond ridiculous that the lightning connector even exists, that talking about it is stupid.I think you're just trying to incite reaction with flame bait with that kind of post. :|
I.e. there's no point complaining about it; you knew about it when you signed on.
I didn't see anyone complaining about it. Merely asking if there were third parties available.
