any 3d game won't work - athlon 1.4 ghz and radeon aiw

i've got

winxp
1.4 athlon
iwill kk266R
radeon aiw (cat 3.0 drivers)
soundblaster live (latest livedrive pack drivers)

anytime i try to run a 3d game (quake 3, unreal tournament, america's army), it will start up, but after a few moments (less than a minute usually) the computer will lock up and will need to be restarted. otherwise, teh system is pretty stable.

I am pretty sure it's not overheating.. because after the crash, i looked at the temp of the cpu and it was less than 43C and the radeon chip wasnt even hot to the touch. i remmeber a friend had kinda the same problem and it turned out to be the power supply, but i really dont wanna get a new one and find out that's not hte problem. i had similar problems on my athlon 850 and abit kt7-raid right before i switched out for the iwill and 1.4... but i was only able to test america's army.

any ideas?

i am currently having the same prob but i have the kr7a-133r mobo ...maybe it has something to do with the mobo or something


and just like you only americas army will work for me but is slow and laggy and some of the time it will lockup ...maybe it has something to do with the drivers or something ...let me know if you figure it out and i will do the same

You might try some extra cooling on the northbridge (hold a case fan near it) and see if that staves off the lockup. If you're a Win2000 user, there's Win2000 patch here. Good luck!

I dont think it's the drivers, as it wouldnt work on an earlier machine either with earlier drivers

i touched the northbridge while it was running, and it was cool, i've got a case fan directing air to cpu, and the northbridge is right next to it, so it gets cool air blown on it at all times.

does anyone know if the power consumption of the radeon aiw is significantly high or something?
i keep thinking it's the ps, but it's 300 W pretty sure it's certified for AMD, because it came with the fong kai case
