First off, this is a bank owned foreclosure, and the asking price is $200,000.

Our offer was submitted today for $200,000, with $5000 being returned at the time of closing to cover closing costs. I just found out an offer was submitted last week at $195,000 with $5000 being returned at closing and that offer was smacked down by the bank. I thought the banks were hurting and taking any reasonable offer? Sheesh. Anyways, it sounds like the bank is firm and I'm wondering if we're coming up $5000 too short and should just go the extra distance to secure the house.

Oh well, we'll find out by the end of business tomorrow if the bank accepted or not. Something tells me 5K above the last offer isn't going to make them totally change their mind.

Yah but on the other offer, they were $10k below asking - you're only $5k below asking. You should have asked for 2.5% back at closing - the number looks "smaller" ... same hook those bastard stores use for 10% off!

lol, I like that line of thought. I'll keep that in mind if and when we ever have to write offers on other places. I'll have something to report tomorrow around the same time since I know so many of you are just dying to know what is up.

Good luck. If it's anything like the banks I dealt with when making offers on foreclosures/short sales, you'll hear back in about a month.
