Ants in the bathroom and bad smells

Leros

Lifer
I walked into my bathroom this morning and it stunk. I was looking around for sourc of the smell and I noticed ants were walking around all over the place. I traced their trail back to a small crack in the title in my shower. The wall is shared with my neighbors who are dirty guys.

How should I deal with this? Seal up the crack? Poison? Hire a pest specialist?

Do you rent? If so call landlord. If not call health dept as it could get much worse and hurt you.

The lease says that pest control is my responsibility.

What about stink control?

I'm not quite sure where the odor is coming from yet. The ants seem to be congregating in my sink. Not quite sure why yet.

This is beyond pest control. 1 the wall is damged enough to let in bugs from another unit. and 2 its a health issue.

Call and complain. If they don't fix it right then write a letter and send it certified and also contact the local health dept.

If your sink has an overflow drain at the top, sometimes ants like to live in there. I have seen that on several occasions. Just fill the sink up with hot water and let the water go down the overflow for few minutes.

Done.

I also sprayed all the areas where I saw ants with cleaner and wiped up. I haven't seen any new ants yet.

Smart move.
Ants are interesting creatures. They send out a scout who leaves a scent trail for the other ants to follow. Using something like ammonia or bleach removes the trail and they have to send a scout out all over again .

you should let your landlord/super know. Black carpenter ants could be eating through the wood.

I'm guessing these are Pharaoh ants and not Carpenter ants. OP, what color and size are the ants?

The best anti-ant strategy is to plug all holes. Since you found one of their holes. Plug it. Your problem often will go away for a couple of years until they find a new hole.

I'm betting you have mold behind the tile. Betcha there's a pipe leak.

My bathroom does not have a vent or a window. It does have a tall skylight which helps a bit with the moist air.

So now I'm seeing a few ants back. And the smell is still here. I'm gonna rip apart my bathroom to find that smell.

Is this like the "Mouse in my Air Conditioner" thread? 😛
