antivirus

So I know the big thing with Macs is that there arent many viruses out there for them. I've been a pc guy for the longest tiem but now i'm a sound engineer, i got a macbook pro for xmas. I don't think it comes with any sort of virus protection, spyware protection or adware protection. is this something i should look into? if so, what is good?

There are no known viruses out for OS X, there is also no known Adware or Spyware for OS X. As such, I do not run any apps to prevent these things since I have no proof from any of them that thay actually will do their jobs when the sh!t hits the fan.

that is one of the best things i like about os x, dont have to worry about viruses or malware for the most part, the few known trojans i have heard of require you to download particular files and open them, as long as you are smart you can get away without any spyware/antivirus/malware protection software

Yes, but as of right now, ClamXAV is just there to scan for files for WINDOWS viruses so you don't pass them on to your windows using friends. There is no 'battle-proven' AV scanner for OS X that scans for OS X viruses because there are no viruses for OS X. There is one (maybe 2) trojans, both of which require you to be an idiot, and the only 'malicious' one steals your personal information, it doesn't trash your files or anything.

Clam is probably best if you receive files from PC users and then pass them along to other PC users.
