antivirus software

I never thought i'd ever have the need to run norton or any other antivirus software...but after seeing a few people get bombarded with viruses and then them sending it out via email or MSN to me, you can never be too careful.
 
I used Norton 2002 before reinstalling my OS, and it seemed to make my system sort of sluggish. This PC-cillin thing came on a CD with my Epox 8RDA, but I'm not sure if it's good, and whether or not I should use it. Some seem to prefer that AVG thing, but I've never heard much about its performance. Other rumors that I've heard seem to indicate that Norton AV 2003 has better performance than its predecessor. All of this leaves me at a loss to determine which AV program to use. Any more suggestions, guys? I feel unsafe right now with out any protection. 😉

I had a lot of problems with version 6. Then, when they wanted $35 to upgrade to 7 so I could get new virus defs, I said screw um.
 
i run norton 2002. cause i got it for free. 🙂. and no its not pirated

i woudl run panda or AVG otherwise
 
I use Pc-cillin and have for years. It runs fairly well and doesn't seem to take up too many resources. The newest version does have something like three or four process running at once in the background, but I don't notice a problem on my machine. I even have it set to where the real time monitor scans every file that is accessed. I have had some problems with it but I was also having problems with my OS at the time so I don't know if it right to blame it or not. It does have a free 30 day trial, you just can't update the pattern file until after you pay. Give it a shot. If you don't like it, uninstall it. And if your real worried about it and don't want to pay anything go here and try their free online scanning. It will detect anything the software will, but I don't think it will clean any thing if you actually have a virus.
 
That's what I use, since I don't DL alot of things usually. Just put them into a folder and run it before they are used.

I also use PC-Cillin. Been using it for some time now and never had a problem with it. In fact when I bought 2002, version 2003 came out a month later. I emailed them and they sent me a new serial number for 2003. As you said, hardly any resources taken and does a good job.
