AntiVir trayicon missing

After an update several weeks ago, I discovered that AVG began to interfere with explorer.exe on my PC. I have since un-installed AVG and installed Avira AntiVir Personal Edition Classic.

My problem is this : sometimes the trayicon is present when I turn on the PC, other times, the trayicon is missing although the AntiVir Guard is running as a service process in the background. What's the deal?
