AntiStatic?

Where can you buy antistatic wrap? Local Compusa or something? not a bag, or maybe a bag big enough to fit my cdr drive in. A hard drive one just won't cut it. Or do CDRW drives need to be shipped in antistatic bags?? It didn't come with one in the retail box 🙂 thanks

I don't think drives like that need anti static wrap, but you should be able to find anti static bags for free at an PC shop. (When they install things they get a lot of left over bags.)

Tinfoil contrary to popular belief is not a safe alternative to anti static bags. There are capacitors that cary a charge on electronic devices. Using a conductive material has destructive potential in cases like this.

Foil can be an alternative to anti-static bags only when used with discrete devices (CPU's, BIOS chips, etc.) and only works when all pins of the device are all shorted together. Due to the nature of semiconductor devices, if you short the two power terminals (VDD, GND) together it is impossible to build up enough charge to destroy the gate oxide. But this only works with discrete components (like chips) - it can run into problems in cards and I don't recommend it for drives.
