Anti - Static Gloves

I just touch the case and a piece of wood before touching any components, and don't work on carpet or wear fleece clothing.

Yeah, I just hold my hand on something metal first. Always put the comp on a table, though. NEVER on carpet.

I put my stuff on a clean towel or sheet on the carpet. Then I use powderless latex gloves and an anti-static wrist strap. Started doing it this way after I accidentally killed a mobo with static discharge from my finger.

I got some anti-static gloves for handling film -- I found them in a local photography shop. While they helped keep the film clean, I found them to be abrasive and painful on the cuticles. Just watch out for that should you decide to go for gloves. For ESD, I'd think that grounded wrist straps would probably be better.

Nope, you don't need those or even a static-strap.

Just be sure and take off your fuzzy bunny slippers and touch the case before you touch anything inside the case. Don't lay parts on shag rug carpets either. 😛 Static is pretty easy to deal with even in dry climates. 😉

If any part of the case metal is touching something that is grounded (table, floor, anything) it is grounded...
