ok i usually view these forums but i have never registered. I'm Jewish and if you hate Jews good for you cause I don't care.

Anyway, if any of you have taken sociology you would have learned that every religion has a view that they're the best. Booster brought up a good point. Jews are human beings like everyone else and we are no different. We just have different beliefs. Hatred towards Jews has not stopped. There are many people that hate Jews especially if you go down south in the U.S. Jews have always valued education and have been successful business leaders. This just leads to other people getting jealous.

Someone a few weeks ago was joking about jews saying we pick up pennys cause we're so cheap. This is another false rumor that goes around that is certainly not true. Before you post do some research and get your facts straight thanks.

Also wfbberzerker thats a joke huh? That wasn't funny at all and I think you're a moron. . Israel is lucky to have a powerful army and good generals. Also Jews tend to cherish life. Palestinians seem to like blowing themselves up and killing innocent jews. THey're raised to hate jews and think theres life after death. Its sad that Arafat pays the family big bonuses if the suicide bomber blows himself up and kills jews.

Jimmy - its the world towards jews in general.

I'm not sure cause I've not researched it 100% but I really don't think the Arab-Israel conflict is as simple as Palestinians = evil, Jews = good. Yes they kill innocents but Israel has also killed innocents. I'm trying not to get bogged down in who is right, I'm more interested in why Jews have been hated through history.

Yes I think calling him a moron for an obvious joke was too harsh. Being able to laugh at yourself is a great quality. However, I've found that the blood only keeps the bread fresher for a few days, to get a week you have to dilute it first. What do you think wfbberzerker ?

Can you explain this phrase please? It sounds like an old saying but I can't make heads or tails of it. I've no idea what blood has to do with bread diluted or not nor how that corresponds to the topic at hand regarding the joke he made.

I was joking. A joke was made earlier that played on the stupid idea that Jews made bread from blood or something similar. Someone took offence at it eventhough it was clearly a joke at the expence of the idiots who believe that type of information. So I continued the joke, but I'm happy to let it die now that's it's been made so obvious.

gross oversimplification, but in short, i think it is for the same reasons that chinese immigrants were forced out of this country by angry poor whites.

people who are not doing so well generally really hate it when they see an "outsider" do better than them. that person becomes a lightning rod for all their problems... suddenly they are poor because of them, yadda yadda. it doesn't help that the jews have a somewhat close community either, which just makes people get weird conspiracy theories.

it's like chris rock said, poor white people will blame niggas for everything.... space shuttle blew up? those damn awesome people...

couple of quotes to reply to:

Jewish people have been accused of preaching to others about how they're wrong in the way they live etc etc. Basically jews have been seen as thinking they were 100% right and everyone should listen to them. This naturally annoyed lots of people, is it true? Do they, did they preach to others about the others failings and how judaism is the correct path?

pretty sure this one has been answered, but no, jews do not go out to seek converts. There are certain sects (lubavitch, I believe, was mentioned) that tend to outreach-but they spend their time trying to reach jews who may not be so involved now, may be a bit turned-off, etc...for example, they're often on campus asking anyone who passes by if they want to shake the lulav (during the sukkot holiday) or put on tefillin; the non-jews can and do walk right on by, a jew who may not be affiliated may take the opportunity to put on the tefillen for the first time in years-that's their goal.

besides, could any religion requiring a circumcision actually try to find converts door to door? ;)

In addition, after being in Israel for 2 weeks last January, you come to realize how biased the media is here.

this caught my eye-just curious, did you go on an organized trip, family, friends, etc?

Your suggestion that jews were hated in WW2 cause they were educated and doing well financially, it's a reoccuring theme when jews and anti-semitism is discussed. Am I to believe that jews have been hated through history because they're prosperous and educated???

that's part of it, yes. if i recall my history correctly (and I think I do), jews would often move from land to land...usually not by choice; they/we tended to get kicked out a lot. when things went well it was great for us, if they went bad we were blamed. one theory behind this trend is that jews often wound up in the position of tax collectors for the government; not to say they didnt have "real' occupations too, but, as the "new" people in any given society, they often got this unwanted task. as such, resently against the governent was shifted to the jews...this isnt the only reason jews were/are hated, but it's part of it.

Anyway, the main reason I felt at home is because everyone believed in the same things that I was brought up believing in. All of Israel goes silent on Friday nights for the Shabbas. The streets are vacant and everyone is at home with their families. It is a comforting feeling that everyone around you is Jewish, not sure why but it is comforting. I know this is going to sound rediculous but when we (my friends and I) were out at a bar we did not have to worry about the girl not being Jewish ( There is a lot of pressure from Jewish mothers that the girl you meet to be Jewish. My current girlfriend is not. No matter I still love her

interesting... my viewpoint regarding israel and shabbat there (and this comes from being part of an orthodox community my whole life while not agreeing in principle with all (or many) aspects of orthodoxy) is that almost everyone around you is jewish (which, as you state, is comforting) but they are all free to celebrate judaism as they see fit...I was there for 10 days in december, and I spent my two friday nights at disco parties thrown in the hotel (actually, kibbutz-but they specialize in hospitality/hotel service) we stayed at, and I loved that everyone there was jewish, relaxing (in my mind, the key point of shabbat; not working), and having fun.

naturally, this doesnt always hold true-the highly religious jews clash with the secular jews sometimes-often over the issue of spending their days learning vs. the mandatory military service. however, other than that frequent point of contention, I found that israel is a home to all types of jews-and that was it's appeal to me. (incidently, where did you spend your shabbat? obviously, some regions will be more religious than others...)

Someone a few weeks ago was joking about jews saying we pick up pennys cause we're so cheap. This is another false rumor that goes around that is certainly not true. Before you post do some research and get your facts straight thanks.

yeah! I only bend down to pickup nickels or higher; pennies are useless! (had to end on the light note :))

its chill. i think the whole current situation with isreal right now is absurd anyways, and if i wasn't able to laugh about it id probably go crazy. but IMHO, i think the jews have been the "world's scapegoat" for a long time. its not just the holocaust, its the pogroms from the 1400's to the 1900's, and even dating back to egyptian times (it IS true, we were slaves). needing our own nation also has to do with the fact that its our homeland.

Regarding the Palestinian issue and the west bank. This is the one place I'm forming a concrete opinion, the jews seem to think they have a god-given right to live in the westbank/all of palestine. Now whether or not they believe that to be true is irrelvant as there were and are people already living there and whether or not you think God's given you the OK to live there doesn't change a thing. If I'm incorrect about this please correct me, as it seems to me to be extremely pigheaded and ignorant. Along the lines of: They're in our way, we're right, let's kick them out so we can live there cause god loves us not them.

No matter how much we don't want it to be, no matter how much we abhor the idea the simple fact is that those people with the biggest or most guns are in control. The Jewish people learned this lesson well with 1000 years of persecution in europe. Zionism is an idea that stems from the belief that the Jewish people need a nation of power and firepower. This idea gained great force after WWII when as a people they were nearly wiped out. Israel fits with their need to defend their people. Right or Wrong the Jews will no longer be kicked around like they have in the past. As a nuclear armed power they have the ability to intervene in international affairs that affect the Jewish people. IE they have the firepower to control.
