anti-rant- I totally forgot how cool and useful OCR is

Just got this assignment at work where i had to pretty much do data entry of 10 pages worth of data into excel, the source being an old requirements book that was printed at least 10 years ago. i was about half a page in and then i remembered there was a scanner on this floor. scanned my pages in, used microsoft office document imaging tool and used the option to do OCR (optical character recognition) and now i can just copy and paste everything into excel!!!!! i dont even think my management knows about this.

Did it guess correctly in all your data? The time you save with OCR on only 10 pages porbably isn't much after validation.

pretty much so far. the pages are pristine and text is pretty clear and uniform.

thats pretty much the complete opposite of my experience with OCR

OCR is great if L/I/1 and ,/. are interchangeable
