anti-anti-war poetry

The local radio show had a poetry reading this morning. Here are some of them:

THE AMERICAN BOY
By Paul T. Wall
With Apologies to Thomas Moore

The American boy to the war is gone
Fighting for freedom is where you?ll find him
Leftist bastards whine on and on
Seems like no one is behind him

Right the wrong cried the warrior lad
Tho? all the world betrays thee
One sword at least shall strike Baghdad
Don?t need the French?.they are fairies!

Tony Blair is the one limey
With balls in a land of peaceniks
Jacque Chiraque in gay par-ee
The ass of Saddam he licks

Mike Farrell has a bleeding heart
Sean Penn thinks he?s an Ay-Rab
Martin Sheen?s a senile old fart
Susan Sarandon?s a stupid old hag

The American boy will return we pray
When we hear the news we will all cheer it
The American boy will return one day
Torn perhaps in body, but not in spirit

A victory for freedom and peace
But a protest will greet him led by old hippies
Hope one day Hollywood gets gassed
Danny Glover and Bonnie Raiit can kiss our ass

ODE TO THE 21ST CENTURY PROTESTER
By Rich Marotta
With Apologies to No One

They missed the 60?s and Vietnam
It is to their eternal regret
So a war that eliminates a monster in Iraq
Will be the lefts target and emotional outlet

It is George Bush who is horrible
And America that?s bad, oh so bad
It?s the peace-loving Saddam they trust to the very max
And understanding for Bin Laden?s jihad

The leftist guilt is a heavy burden
Too painful for them to bear
So they throw in with cowardly bastards from France
Saddam?s torture, 9-11, what they hell do they care

No, it is singers and actors who know better than us
Sheryl Crow, Martin Sheen, Sean Penn, Rob Reiner
Their foreign policy is like Neville Chamberlain?s
Stick their heads in the sand, the world will be finer

<snip>

😀

While I like them, I'm not sure why gays are singled out in the last poem. Are all gays anti-war?

i noticed that too. the show (bill handel) is fairly middle of the road, but they're pretty ticked off at all the demonstrators last weekend.

Funny how the Pro War advocates are so intent on dismissing those who are anti war as Anti American opr Communists (or even gay). It's like they have doubts that the cause will stand by itself and those whose who are against it might be able to convince those who believe in the cause now to change their minds. Of course when morons on either side speak up it really makes one wonder if we as a Nation even have a clue.

THE AMERICAN BOY
By flavio

The American boy to the war is gone
Fighting for freedom is where you?ll find him
Freedom from what we don't know
That's why no one is behind him

Right or wrong cried the warrior lad
It matters not why I kill thee
One sword at least shall strike Baghdad
Real life Counter Strike is what pleases me.

Tony Blair is the one limey
Who his country considers greatly slimey
Those who get up and take a stance
Saving lives they give a chance.

The American boy will return we pray
Although it doesn't look good for him today
As many Americans will die in vain
For someone else's financial gain.

For Bush and Blair there will be pain
As their mistakes will now be plain
And one day soon everyone in mass
Will know Bush as The Stupid Ass.

ODE TO THE 21ST CENTURY WAR-NOW GUY
By flavio
With Apologies to No One

Back in the 60?s and Vietnam
It made them smile to see so many die
So if we can kill some more in Iraq
They say "screw reason, let's just attack!"

It is George Bush who is the good guy
And everyone else is to blame!
Don't want any stinking peaceful resolution
Saddam and bin Laden we think are the same.

Their stupidity is a heavy burden
Too painful for them to bear
Attack first and talk later is their game
Because again Saddam and 9-11 they think the same.

No, it's freedom, liberty, and justice their fool heads think
The Patriot Act makes their eyes shine
Their foreign policy is quite a mess
Blow people up, the world will be fine

Yeah, god forbid any american express an opinion contrary to the views of the government.

Those "poems" are idiotic, Stark. It speaks volumes that you find them so amusing.

The Cremation of Sam McGee by Robert Service

There are strange things done in the midnight sun
By the men who moil for gold;
The Arctic trails have their secret tales
That would make your blood run cold;
The Northern Lights have seen queer sights,
But the queerest they ever did see
Was that night on the marge of Lake Lebarge
I cremated Sam McGee.

That's where the "queer" reference comes from.
Here's a link to the not-so-non-violent event the poem describes. And it was in SF, and according to the SF Gate:
Bay Area United Against War asks San Francisco marchers to pick up leaflets at the National Radical Women and Freedom Socialist Party office in the Mission District. It is the only co-sponsor without a Bay Area office, relying heavily on e-mail and the Internet to rally its troops. Its supporters include everyone from Stanford Faculty Against the War to the Harvey Milk Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Democratic Club.
I was thinking of editing out the poem because it was too overtly anti-homosexual, but it looks like there's factual justification for it's POV.

those are good, flavio.

Stark's list of least favorite OT members:
1. Loonbeam
2. Fausto1

everyone else is ok.

From your own link:

"less than half of 1 percent of the people out there were the problem here."

...and no mention of looting. Hardly making a case for the generaliztaions or questionable facts in the poem. But if it makes people feel better to dismiss them as "violent protestors" I guess that's all that counts.

So because some of the supporters are gay it's justified to generalize them all as gay as if it's an insult?

Hmm....a total jackass has labeled me "Vice Least-Favorite-Person". I think that's technically a compliment. 😕

the poem says "leftists and gays," but I get your point. I'm going to remove the poem.

Breakaway marchers pelted police with bottles and debris, after engaging in hit-and-run acts of vandalism around the mid-Market Street area. Protesters said police had responded with tactics that used excessive amounts of force. Police deny the accusations.
vandalism = looting? maybe?

I agree with you, the poem's pretty weak so I cut it.

Very good ones!!!

Remember, the TRUE patriot is the person that works hard and tries hard to make his/her country a better place, EVEN if that implies critizing and opposing what the goverment wants..... when you obey the goverment blindly, you are no longer a patriot, you are a robot and a pawn!!

Good job!

From the SFGate article
"It's beyond me how anybody can look at these protesters and call them anything other than what they are: anti-American, anti-capitalist, pro- Marxists and communists," Limbaugh said on his radio show.
The problem is that many of his listeners aren't capable of thinking for themselves and take what ever comes out of his festering gob as the absolute truth. While I'm not Anti War I feel very uncomfortable knowing that some those who support a Military Solution to disarming Hussien if he doesn't comply are such simple minded buffoons who don't even bother to analyze the situation and feel perfectly comfortable labeling those who might feel they have a valid dissenting opinion as Anti Americans. What's Anti American in my opinion is their attempts to stifle dissenting opinions by accusing them of being something they aren't..something that the Right Wing Talk Show Hosts like Limbaugh and Micheal Reagan have made an art form.

A lot of the more vocal members need to read this. There are many people here who seem to think that if you criticize the government about anything at all you are unamerican and disloyal to your country.

There's nothing un-American about being anti-war. I think that the anti-war movement is missing the boat, but criticizing your government is about as American as you get, we were founded on questioning the government, its healthy and pro-active, but where I think they are missing the boat is that they're still putting faith in policies that haven't worked for 12 years. Its a very innocent and child-like thing to put that much faith in someone like Saddam to DO THE RIGHT THING and comply to the inspectors. It hasn't worked in 12 years and it won't work in two weeks or six months or another 12 years. Iraq only responds to force and I think that's pretty evident. I think most of the anti-war movement is really just anti-Bush, where were they when Clinton bombed Iraq in '98 when the inspectors got the boot. There was no congressional approval, let alone UN or NATO approval. He just did it. There were no marches in the streets. You can say that's because he wasn't going to war with them, but if that bomb and run technique he used didn't work then, what makes us think that prolonging inspections is going to work. Iraq will not comply. That's pretty obvious by now. There's nothing new under the sun.

Just as long as you understand that them being wrong doesn't mean they are Un-American.

I have already posted that one other times before, and some of the "vocal" members had a good time calling it pinko BS..... eh, nevermind! 😉 It really doesn't matter, when somebody resorts to name calling and offenses it shows how "vast" the resources at his/her disposal are, and the "deep understanding" of them.... 😛

Remember also, "The TRUTH will set you free.... but the truth can be found only by those who look for it"

Say no to mass-brainwashing!!!

Nobody is counting on Saddam to DO THE RIGHT THING...and you seem to be under the mistaken impression that we have had the same thing going on for 12 years when things only really got stepped up a couple months ago.

I think most of the anti-war movement is really just anti-Bush

Bush's demonstrated complete ineptitude at diplomacy is causing a lot of concern yes. The way he has mishandled this and the mess it's caused is unbelievable. But nobody was protesting until he tried to ram a war down everyone's throats. He's acting like a childish bully instead of a diplomat and he's not going to get the support he needs this way.
