The schools do have an agenda. It is to maintain discipline and good order, and provide an enviornment conducive to learning. Apparell designed to provoke controversy has no place in the public schools. Would rip condone t-shirts saying "religion is BS"? "God is a figment of your imagination"? How about a plain truth, such as "more people have been killed in the name of religion than by any political system"?

When you can defend the above, I'll listen to an argument about defending tha abortion t-shirts.

Hell, don't they already give you a complimentary "Chavez" shirt and some sandals when you sign into you dorms nowadays? :p

"wasting your parent's money" ??? are you saying college is a waste? not sure what you mean...

but on the other comment I only wish more than 20% of college students even know who chavez was....

and on the second half of that comment sandals are very comfy when it's warm outside.

Wow - maybe they should add "Recognizing Humor 101" to the curriculum.
As long as the books for the course has a chapter about recognizing poor attempts at humor;)

Of course - that's the week they bring in Sinbad, the "Kings of Comedy," and Foxworthy and crew. (except Ron White - that man is funny.) :p

Im trying to remember who tried suppressing anything during the last elections. All I can think of is the swiftboat thing.

Then go look into all the people who weren't allowed to attend events, rallies, and appearences due to what was on their shirt, sign, or car bumper.

Same at my high school. They made a person change his t-shirt when it contained messages which promoted smoking.

"Well, behind every joke there's some truth."

"What about that Bavarian cream pie joke I told you? There's no truth to that. Nobody with a terminal illness goes from the United States to Europe for a piece of Bavarian cream pie and then when they get there and they don't have it he says, 'Ah, I'll just have some coffee.' There's no truth to that."

- Sheila and Jerry, in "The Soup Nazi"

Seriously, I was just joking about the stereotypes of the average college student. College is a worthwhile endeavor -- I spent 5 years there myself (on my own dime, however.)

Trust me, less than 20% of college students who "wear" a Chavez shirt know much, if anything, about the man.

I wore sandals in college too. Sometimes with socks. Yeah, that was me. I also dyed my hair a variety of colors, including a nice fuscia, had multiple piercings, tattoos, sometimes wore combat boots with shorts, and was once seen playing hacky-sack in the quad.

Lighten up.
