There are these things called satellites and weather reports. Royal Caribbean is probably just too cheap to divert the ship and add a day to their schedule.

Weather might not be completely predictable, but major storms don't sneak up on you. The only justification I can think of for this is that they did divert the ship and couldn't out run the storm because it diverged from its predicted course.

speaking of cruise ship, saw Titanic again with the gf a few nights ago.

I'm not going to step foot into another cruise ship unless the ratio of passenger to boat is at least 10:1.

A storm like that would freak me out.
It seems that cruise ships are now too top heavy, and probably rely on a number of mechanical stabilization systems instead of traditional nautical principles.

(My only cruise was on the SS Norway, which was launched in the 60's as the trans-Atlantic liner SS France... In other words, it had proper proportions for rough seas. The Norway couldn't dock at many island ports because its hull was too deep, instead it carried its own ferry ships)

Our cruise in december was diverted because of typhoon melor, the crossing from Ho Chi Minh City to Kota Kinabalu was pretty rough for the first day lol

Actually I'm surprised at the amount of loose items on cruise ships, I would have figured that most things would be fastened just as a precaution. like those flower pot decorations and stuff.

All the passengers are fine, the ship is fine and they've decided to turn back? I'd be pissed if I was on that ship. Not for going through the storm, but having gone through the storm and now being told I have to go back. Just plain stupid.

We went through one on the Indy while crossing the Atlantic where waves were breaking over the flight deck. We were sealed in for 3 days and when we were through it we came out and saw that all the catwalk from the bow back past the forward jet blast deflectors were gone.

A cruise ship can weigh over 200,000 tons. Not much swaying back and forth, unless you decide to steer it into 150 mph winds.

Not suppose to but a storm like this will still make it sway a lot. I guess these incidents don't happen often enough to justify it. My parents have been on a lot of cruises and they say you barely even realize you're on a boat, it's pretty crazy how huge they are.

These look easy to tip but they surprisingly arn't. I recall seeing a video where it was going almost 80 degrees and not tipping. Crazy high end stabilization systems.

That's what I hear. Although I've never been on one and have no desire either. It's like a floating hotel/casino with some stops in between. I LMAO when I see people exercising on the damn things.

I'd rather trek around Europe and stay at an old motel in some German village.

I was on a cruise ship when I was a kid, and we hit a minor storm. Wasn't as bad as this, but some stuff moved around the ship. I went up on deck for a bit. That was probably a little dangerous, and you wouldn't be allowed to today. That was my favorite part of the journey. Spending a week fucking off isn't as appealing when you're a kid, and that's what you do anyway :^D
