antenna pointing down

The most central location to reach the areas I need coverage is outside in a large covered porch. Access to the attic above this area is easy enough. If I drilled a hole and dropped the antenna(s) down thru the sheetrock would there be any problem due to the orientation/polarization of the antenna pointing down?
For example.

I could try a ceiling mount antenna I guess, but I don?t know if their range is any good.

Most 3rd parties Antennae are far better than the 2dbi "Sticks" that are plugged by default into the retail Wireless Routers.

I have both a (flashed) Linksys WRT54G with a pair of the 10inch?ish hi-gain antennas, and a (flashed) Buffalo WHR-HP-54G with a stock 6ish inch antenna stashed away that I could use. The antennas for the linksys were purchesed on clearence at radioshack.

This is for my sisters place that I am going to visit later this summer. It?s a small town so I can only use what I take with me, and there won?t be much time for experimenting. Just trying to go there prepared.

Is it silly to worry that the antennas were designed to work pointing up and not down?

yes.

No problem at all. It's not even really a problem if the antenna is sideways, and the receiver is up/down. Stuff bounces around so much polarity isn't too big a concern at those frequencies.

Aren't the antennas omnidirectional?

Yup, but there is a polarization. Think of a donut. The antenna is at the center. When you turn the antenna on its side, the donut goes on its side.
