I wish Apple would do me a favor and make an android phone. I always liked the iPhone hardware, but never cared much for the software. HTC is getting a lot better at making a sexy phone though, they just don't have that extra little polish you get from Apple.

Some guy had flashed an original first gen iphone to run Android (dual booted). I assume it's only a matter of time before they get it running on the other handsets as there seemed to be a huge surge of interest when the guy posted the video. Of course it won't be properly supported and you're at the mercy of freelancers working on stuff in their spare time, but it could end up working pretty well.

Yeah having a shittier UI, worse battery life, and less apps sounds awesome. Why not just jailbreak iOS if you want the (OMG ITS OPEN!) freedom?

What must have apps would he be missing out on by the time Apple developed his dream device?

I'm just stating my preference. I've had an iPod touch for 2 years now so I'm quite familiar with Apples software offerings and it's just not my cup of tea. I much prefer the Android UI to the iOS personally, especially because of the widgets on the home screen. I know you can get this through jailbreaking on the iOS devices, but all the widgets are very inconsistent and buggy that I found. I have had a much more enjoyable experience with the Android Market than the App Store mainly because Google doesn't reject much of anything (you can get Browsers, Text Apps, Emulators, etc). I jailbroke my iPod and the experience wasn't what I'd hoped it would be.

Like I said just stating my opinion, no reason to get indignant over it.

That would be nice. Apple fans would finally be able to combine their love of Apple design with their desire for Android software. Win-win for everybody.

Use the iPhone app to compare and see how busted it is in comparison.

To keep it relevant to this thread, how does the Facebook app work on an iPhone with no reception?

Anyways, the Gizmodo page has been updated, looks like the problem happens when you touch both side and bottom of the phone and short the two. A case will probably fix it, but Apple wants $30 for it, tell them you are having reception problems when holding the phone, maybe they'll throw one in for free. I am guessing they'll change the manufacturing process to add a non-conductive clear coating to the band. Early adapters can try just holding the phone like fairies with pinky sticking out, so you don't accidentally touch the bottom part, should be no problem for the iphone crowd :D

I wonder how this didn't come up in testing. I mean when I hold my iPhone (first gen), I usually just hold it by the plastic bit on the bottom, with another finger or two on the back as support. But I can definitely see how easy it would be to bridge the antennas on the new ones.

Do we have word that the bumpers or whatever keep this from happening?

I've used both and quite frankly neither provides many the features of the actual site.

EDIT: And I would expect there to be an Android Netflix app forthcoming unless Apple signed some kind of deal with Netflix to prevent it. Apple currently has more market-share, so I'm not surprised they got it out on that platform first. Same thing goes for a Kindle app too.

Not to be obnoxious, but how is this related to a discussion of iPhone antennae?

Regardless of testing, cases, etc, no person should ever have to worry about how they hold their cell phone in order for it to work.

And let's be honest... if you require someone to use a case in order to get reception you blew it.

Noticeable huge gaps in the Android repository are Netflix, Kindle, and a functional Facebook app, to name a few.

Netflix was hiring an Android app dev. I'll try to find the article.
Edit: Wasn't Hard http://www.neowin.net/news/netflix-for-android-coming

Kindle: http://www.amazon.com/gp/feature.html?ie=UTF8&docId=165849822

And the Facebook app got an update recently, its fairly good now. Main thing missing is chat, but I just use eBuddy for Facebook chat. Is actually nicer than the Facebook app for iPhone as far as chatting is concerned.

In other words, Android does not have that stuff as I said. I also forgot to mention games. There's really no comparison there.

This thread is not about Apps or iPhone's lack of Flash support. We are talking about antenna design here.

You and Que are the worst fanboys here. The other Apple guys are fine and can actually have discussions but the both of you cannot have any serious discussions about anything.
