My Antec TRUEPOWER 430w PSU seems to have a fan speed issue. The specs say it should operate between 1500 and 3800 RPM depending on temperature conditions; mine has never topped 1700 RPM.

When my system first starts up my PSU fan clocks in around 900-1100 RPM. Once things get cooking (35 degrees or so) then it makes its way up to about 1200-1400 RPM. Things got really hot here the other day and under full load my PSU hit 43 degrees and 1700 RPM was achieved.

The FAN ONLY connections are basically useless because my 80mm case fans never get above 1500 RPM. Silent? Yes. Hot? You bet!

What have some of you experienced with this power supply? Faster? The same?

Which one do you have? I was VERY dissapointed to find that mine had much fewer connectors than the reviewed models and even the manual has a diagram of the other.

Do you have one with two pseudo-SerialATA connectors (True SATA PSUs have 3.3v on the connector)? That's what I have so I can only help you compare yours to it.

i have it, i dont run my fans off the "fan only" connections i run them off the regular 4-pin molex ones so they run at full speed, but they are still quite, i dont have teh one with any SATA connections mine is older

2280 right now. My case runs 31c-35c, and my cpu runs 36c-40c. No problems here. And mine does NOT have the sata connectors on it.

I'm sure he's referring to the built-in secondary fan which can be monitored by the motherboard ;)

Thanks for the responses everyone. I did do a quick search for threads on the subject but obviously my typing/reading skills were off today. Thanks for the links.

I have a fairly new version of the 430w True Power (it's about 30 days old and has at least 2 SATA power connectors.) It sounds like some other people in those other threads are having the same problem. I have also found other websites where people have claimed the low RPMs are fine. They are *fine* I guess... but they make the extra FAN ONLY connectors useless.

I've contacted Antec and I'll see what they have to say.

*Edit* I'm not having any problems, but I feel that my PSU is not giving me everything I expected. Having a 43 degree PSU in my system can't help over all case temps... and having to run all my fans off regular molex connections is depriving me of one dedicated power source.

I have this PSU and I have the same problem, I wish to some higher power I could crank that fan up!!!!!! I would easily trade a little noise for the piece of mind that comes with a lot of air moving though my PSU.

Hi there,

A few things:

1. I have the older version of this PS (no SATA connectors) It's the best PS I've ever used. I originally had all my case fans hooked to the "fan only" connectors, but felt the fans were spinning too slowly (case temps were a bit high for my tastes) but the fans WERE quiet

2. The PSUs own fan speed is related to load on the PS. Low load, low fan speed. My PS fan spins at anywhere from 1600-1900 rpm, depending on what I'm doing with the box.

3. The actual internal temperature of the PS won't affect your case temps one bit b/c the PSs fans are exhausting the hot air directly out the back of the PS/Case. :)

4. If you want the PS fans to spin faster so they suck the heat out of your case, you need CASE FANS (or faster case fans). My case temps vary from 31-35 degrees, depending on ambient temp and what I'm doing w/the box.

Hope this helps.

I have the Antec 480 and it runs hot also... until a few weeks ago though when i opened her up and just ran the 12v to some new fans in it now its as cold as ice and makes your case temps drop like crazy! this thing adds alot of heat believe it or not and the original fans do not spin fast enough to outtake enough air.
