I am a rookie for pc building, I got this power supply "Antec True Power Trio TP3-650 ATX12V 650W" delivered yesterday fron Newegg & I plugged it the fan didn't start. I tried connecing the "Fan Only" out to the Antec Nine hundred case fan but it didn't run.

Am I testing this right, Please help me here to find out whether PSU is working or not.

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks.

This is a Seasonic platform PC with a special twist by Antec...the fan rpm sensor and a fan molex power plug. Based on my experience with the TP Trio 430 and 550, you should avoid the use of this circuit. It's a bad design because the additional load can cause the output device to fail.

If you disconnect this circuit (rpm plug and molex plug), then the PSU should work well. The 120mm fan should run at very low speed all the time until the output load is above 200 watts.

If the built-in 120mm CPU fan does not spin when the PC is ON, then you have a defective PSU.

Please help! how do I test this PSU without connecting to MB? How do I know this PSU is good right out of the box.

Any help is appreciated.

I am building a minimal system(not for gaming). I am planning to buy:
this Mother Board
Intel Core 2 Duo E6750 processor
This Video Card
Memory
250GB HD- Western Digital
Lite-on DVD/CD burner
VISTA 32-bit Home Premium or XP pro

Let me know if I missed something..

It should work, but you should test to confirm compatibility. Look for A2 on the barcode affixed to the PSU. These units should have 100% sleeved cables with larger black heat sink.
A better choice would be the Antec Earthwatts 500 (often on sale @ hot deals forum for $30 after rebate). These units also come from Seasonic. Reliability is probably a little better than the TP Trios. Even the Earthwatts 380 or 430 will be adequate.

Yes there is A2 on the barcode affixed to the PSU. If I test with the multimeter I don't get any voltage on the Fan only connection.

The PSU fan doesn't turn on when I turn the power on. How do I know this PSU is working?

You need to connect the PSU to a MB and start the MB to check the PSU. Connecting the PSU to the wall and turning on the switch at the back of the PSU will not do anything.

There's a way to start it up in simulating the closing of the power switch by shorting two of the pins on the ATX connector. Not sure off hand, but I'm sure someone will be able to chime in.
