Antec True Power still good?

I used to really be into building custom PC's, but I haven't kept up on things in the last few years. I'm pretty sure my current PSU is dying on me and I'm looking at getting a replacement. The one I currently have is an Antec 480W that came with my Antec case. I remember the Antec True Power series having a good reputation a few years ago, so I was thinking about going with one of those. Are they still considered to be a top quality PSU or have things changed?

What are your system specs? IIRC the Truepower line isn't a *bad* line of PSU's, but I'd wager there's a better option for you

Go for an Antec EarthWatts power supply.

If you're talking about the True Power II, like the 450W versions, then to answer your question: No. There are better power supplies on the market, and I'm not even sure they make the TPII anymore. If you're referring to the True Power Trio, then it's a decent power supply but I'd personally still go with an Antec Earthwatts or some other power supply, like a Corsair unit or OCZ ModXStream Pro or any 80 Plus Certified unit.

My system is about 3 years old now and I'm still rocking the single core. It's got a 2.0 GHz AMD Venice Core CPU, 2 GB Corsair XMS, and I can't remember the motherboard model right now. I'll look next time I open up the case. So, what exactly makes the Antec EarthWatts better than the True Power? The True Power has a 5 year warranty.

Ok I have an Epox 9NPA Ultra+ mobo. Maybe you guys can help me out with the issue I'm having. Sometimes when I press the power button the fans come on, but the computer doesn't post. If I turn off the main power switch on the PSU and then turn it back on, the computer usually comes on and posts normally after that. I can't figure out if it's a PSU problem or mobo problem. I just opened up the case and reseated all the cables, but it's still doing the same thing.

The EarthWatts series is more efficient than the TP II series. But if you already have the 480W TP II, it is still a solid power supply. If you're looking for a new unit, there are many more quality "budget" power supplies available than before.

Anyway, if you have a spare computer/power supply, plug it into the system and see how it behaves. However, I'm pretty sure the issue you're describing is a motherboard one.

Thanks for that info. Right now I have a 450W Pure Power that came with my Antec case. I don't have any extra power supplies right now to try. I really hope it's not the mobo because it's going to be hard to find a replacement probably. I was hoping to wait another year before upgrading my system.
