I just noticed my TP-750 was making a constant clicking noise. Whether the computer is off or on it still makes a clicking noise. I called Antec and they told me I'd have to RMA. Now I have to wait to receive a new one.
Well, I left it off for a while and it stopped making the noise and everything is fine. I'm not going to RMA it until I hear it again. The Antec guy said it was probably the relay switch although I really wonder why it made that noise in the first place. Although the pc wouldn't have turned on if it was the relay switch.
I don't think there's anything wrong with it. It just happened once and I have never heard it before. If I hear it again though I will have to investigate more and possibly RMA it.
The only thing that really runs when the PC isn't on is the +5VSB, usually generated by a small flyback supply. This psu doesn't look like it has a relay, like some other antecs. You can see the small transformer & control IC used for the 5vsb supply in this pic (smaller yellow one). http://www.hardwaresecrets.com/fullimage.php?image=17671
It's been fine ever since. I've never had a problem with it besides that faint clicking noise although it still turned on and was fine even then. It's a great power supply.
plug the battery backup into a surge protector. (this prevents a no-ground scenario). turn off the surge strip - when the battery backup kicks on - if you hear buzzing similar - its the active PFC making that noise - not necessarily bad - but i can't imagine it was designed.
never ever ever unplug a ups from the wall to test it - you can spark and have no ground (maybe your pc!)
