HI
I just recieved a Antec SX840 case with the 400 watt power supply.
This is going to be the starting point for my FIRST home built computer and thought it would be a good way to start things off!!! :D
I do have 2 questions. First, the 2 fans that came with the case have part numbers that are not listed on the Antec Web site. The number is DF1208SL. Does anyone have any idea what the noise rating is and how much air the fans move???? Right now,, the most important thing for me is to get this case quiet as it will be used in the living room of my house and the wife has extremely sensitive hearing!!!!! The quieter the better!!!! Since this is my first home built unit,, I do not have any intentios of over clocking at this time. Once the unit is working and stable, over clocking could be in the future. I will probably build using a 1 gigahertz AMD cpu. If these fans are too noisy, I will be willing to sacrafice some cooling for some quiet!!! From what I have seen, Panaflo fans seem to be quiet with ratings around 30 db or so.
Next, the power supply fan. I read a article AFTER the case was ordered and on it's way that the ps is noisy. Anyone have any ideas how noisy it is??? If need be,, I will replace the power supply fan with one that is quieter.
Thanks

I have the SX830 I assume the 2 80mm fans that come with the case are the same. They are very quiet if you are not going to over clock I would move one to the front for an intake and leave one in back for exhaust. As for the power supply my 300 watt one is very quiet the rpm of the fan changes with the load on the power supply. Noise is not a concern for me so I moved the two fans that came with the case to the front and added two Sunon high output fans to the back has exhaust. My case temp is the same as room temp with a P3 600@841. I think you made a great choice on your case I know I love mine good luck wiht the rest of your system.

Their power supplies are a POS. Forget about getting any help with Antec with it, they are unbelievably stupid. My advice is to smash it with the heaviest sledgehammer you can find, and buy another supply from another manufacturer.

You won't need any sledgehammer. I've had my sx830 for a year. The PS is a good high quality one, as is the 400w. Mine is quiet and I have had no problems what so ever.

Good Sid, you'd better hope you don't, otherwise, you'll need that sledgehammer.

* one month of unanswered emails;
* promise of a new power supply from their head of tech support "no need to return yours";
* two weeks waiting for new supply that never arrives;
* hey...and it only gets worse...believe me.

I have only heard good things about the Antec powersupplies. I have a SX830 on the way. I know that the SX830 powersupply is rather quiet. I think it has a smart fan. I have no clue about the Antec 400 watt powersupply that you have. You could replace it with a panaflo, but don't know if that fan would move enough air.

HI
This must be my lucky day!!!!! After I posted my first note here yesterday, I called Antec to see if I could get the info I needed. Since it was after working hours at Antec, I left a message requesting the info.
Well,,, I just got off of the phone after talking to the people at Antec.
The case fans are rated at 34.4 cfm and the noise is 30 db. As for the power supply fan,, the Antec rep couldn't help me there. He did explain how the ps worked saying that the fan will ramp up as the load increases and slow down as the system current draw drops.
After reading HAGBARD'S post, I can understand his thoughts and feelings about Antec. I realize that I was after information at this time and not replacement parts. Hopefully, the good response time will be there when I need replacement parts under the terms of the warranty.
Thanks

Leave it alone Hagbard....I know you hate them but dumping on every thread won't help anything. I have had an extremely pleasurable experience in dealing with Antec's products and CS. You can't expect any company to produce as many items as they do and not have an occasional one die. As for you experience with customer service....you're the only one that I know that has had ANY problems with them so obviously they aren't the malicious SOB's you make them out to be.

Well ericd, maybe they just took a shinning to me
;)

The fact remains, they ignored me, then they lied to me. One reason for these forums are to let each other know what our experience are with our purchases. Mine here was negative. I intend to share that experience.

I love my Antec case and 300w power supply. Pghpooh you just bought a great foundation for a home built system. This is my first system too and the Antec case is a joy to work with.

I have the SX830 w/300 watt PS and have nothing but good to say about it. Great case, easy to build in, quality construction through out. I have one of the oem fans in the front for intake and two in the back for exhaust. My system is pretty quiet overall but I'm looking at going with the panaflo L1A's to quiet it down some more.
