HI All

Amazon.com has the Antec SX630II case for 62.99. This case has both usb and firewire ports. It has a well made 300watt psu that is both P4 and Amd approved. The psu supplies 220watts on the 3.3 and 5.0rails which is what AMD recommends to run their latest cpus.

The case is usually 72.99 but there are two coupons available which will bring the price down to 62.99

You'll have to search the web though for the 10 dollar off coupons.

I ordered on Friday night at 9p.m and received my case at 3pm Monday!! You're not gonna get service like this from those companies listed on pricewatch and pricegrabber!!

Free Shipping and No taxes!!

I dont understand that hole rail crap. Whats the difference between the bad and a good psu. I mean what should i look for and what does that stuff mean.

ALSO, I have about $400 in staples gf and what to buy some stuff.
I have a
P4 1.8,
cdrw,
40gb hd,
80gb mator quiet drive
dvddrive. SOON DVD WRITER
an external 120gb 5400 rpm drive.
Geforce 3

All this is in a gatway case with propably a 250watt psu and i wanted to move to a bigger case with more bays. Will this case and 300 watt be enough if im gonna put in a DVD writer, and a better video card??????? WILL 300watt be enough

This deal could be hot on other Antec cases offered by Amazon as well.

SLK3700AMB for $71.99 before coupons with Free Shipping

PLUS660AMB for $104.99 before coupons with Free Shipping

By the way...I haven't been able to track down an applicable coupon....are there two DIFFERENT $10 off coupons applicable, or is this two stacked $5 off coupons. Thanks.

Now for the bad news...I checked this last night...today at work...I can't find this model on Amazon's site :(

I just got home and checked my history...here is the link from yesterday...apparently they redid the page, the 3700AMB has 11 bays so it checks out. I'd put this under order at your own risk...but at $62.99 shipped, whew...what a deal for the above case and ps. Linky

It doesn't list it for immediate purchase like a "normal" amazon listing, but if you check out the new&used section one of the vendors with new stuff is....drum roll please...amazon.com for $71.99! Go fig, here is the Linky2

Macro2's post:

That's good to know, I think I read somewhere the frontpanel was flimsy on the slk types....thanks for the verification.

LucJoe's post:

Two main difference b/n 2600 and 3700

1. The 2600 is a mini-tower while the 3700 is a mid-tower. Thus 3700 has 3 more bays.
2. The 3700 comes with a 350W PS while the 2600 comes with a 300@ PS.

@PrinceXizor: Thanks for the info!

@Macro2: Flimsy?? what do you mean? I was all excited to order it and now i'm scared :(. It looks so much cooler than the SX630II that this thread was originally about, plus it has a more powerful PSU.

3700 comes with a 120mm fan slot. Very nice for quiet computing.

The 3700 has a 120mm fan mount in the front AND another 120mm fan in the back. This is a great feature for a case this size. You usually have to get into the realy big tower cases to find one that uses 120mm fans. A good 120mm fan will move lots of air quietly compared to a couple of loud 80mm fans. There's a removable drive mounting cage just behind the front fan with space for 5 drives, so the front fan keeps them cool. That's a problem I ran into with my previous case--not much air flow around the drive mounting areas. The drive mounting cage actually uses rubber grommets that the drive mounting screws pass through and then the grommets slide into the drive cage. The drives don't actually touch any metal, just the grommets so it makes the system even quieter. The paint on the case is kind of a metalic grey color. The web pictures don't do it justice. Looks like really good metalic car paint.

I've been looking at one of these cases for a while, so when the computer store near where I work put the case on sale...

Central Computer

well, lets just say I plan to do a little dremel modding this weekend :)

Ok, so now i've heard good and bad things about this. So, bottom-line, would the 3700 for 62 shipped from Amazon be considered a Hot Deal?

BTW, Thanks for the nice description Coaster

By the way, before you purchase the slk series, I suggest you try finding a store nearby to check it out first. I too considered buying these cases till I saw it at compusa.

First of all. the drive cover is really cheap and flimsy, like previously mentioned. Unlike the more expensive Antecs and chieftec cases that have a real solid and well made cover. The locking mechanisms on the slk is just a cheap peace of plastic that will surely get either bent or broken off sooner or later.

Secondly, theres no way you'll be able to get matching drives.

Thirdly, Those 120mm fans push alot of air but they're noisy too.

One thing to keep in mind. The Anted SL300s power supply has some resale value. I sold the power supply for 27 bucks on arstechnica forum. People were actually fighting over it there. I listed it on Anandtech and there was no interest at all, hehe.
With the cash and a coupon from staples I upgraded the power supply to a Antech Truepower. Usually the Antec cases that come equipped with the truepower series of psu usually run around110 to 120 bucks. The final price i paid was 78 bucks. Super Nice Case!!!!

With that coupon u cant go wrong buying any of the cases mentioned at Amazon. They gave me great service. Dealing with companies on pricewatch and especially pricegrabber can get scarry.

I too am waying the pros and cons about this case versus the SX630II and here's some salient points to consider.

Here are the specs on the SX630II. For the specs on the other see my previous post.

SmartPower - runs cooler and quieter.
ATX12V for AMD? and Intel® systems, including Pentium® IV.
Front mounted USB & IEEE1394 (FireWire) ports
Washable Air filter on the front
Lockable swing out side panel with a handle
- Quick release drive bays with release lever
- Snap-in fan mounts
Drive rails for 5.25" devices
Removable Side Panels
Removable Drive Cages for 3.5? drives
8 Drive Bays:
- External: 3 x 5.25", 2x 3.5"
- Internal: 3 x 3.5"
Cooling capacity: up to 4 x 80mm fans
- 1 rear (installed)
- 2 front (optional)
- 1 side panel (optional)
Motherboards up to Standard ATX

Now for my comparions:

SLK3700AMB:
Pros - Antec Metallic Bronze as opposed to Beige; 350Watt power supply; Mid-Tower so 1 extra external 5.25" bay and 2 extra internal 3.5" bays; 120mm fan mount possibilities
Cons - Flimsy front panel; Only two possible fan mounts; no filter; no front mounted IEEE1394 ports

SX630II:
Pros - Sturdier construction overall; Snap-In fan mounts; Total of 4 possible fans including a side mount; Lockable swing out side panel; Quick release drive bays; Washable Air Filter; Front mount IEEE1394
Cons - Beige color; 300W PS (instead of 350, though the 300 is a good ps); mini-towers so 3 less bays; only supports 80 mm fans

I'm leaning towards the SX630II because of its additional fan supports; filter and front mounted IEEE1394 ports.

Me too, but I just don't know if that 300W power supply is going to be enough. I plan on putting a Athlon 2100+ in there and will be overclocking...

How can you tell if the front-mounted USB ports on a case are USB2-compatible?

A few more bits of info on the 3700 for those comparing cases:
The 3700 DOES have a washable fan filter in the front.
2 USB ports up front (no IEEE1394 as PrinceXizor said).
The side pannel has two latches and swings out, no lock.
The five slot 3.5" drive bay is quick release, the second 3.5 inch drive bay (the one behind the 3.5 slots on the front panel) is also quick release.
The two 120mm fan mounts are snap-in.
The 350W PS is a Smart Power (not one of Antec's latest True Power series, but its still very quiet)

For more opinions, take a look at some of the customer comments on Newegg.

I guess the thing that pushed me toward the 3700 were
- the quiet 120mm fans
- I have more than 2 drives that need cooling (a couple of SCSI drives, a couple of IDE drives). Out of the other Antec cases that I looked, if there was a fan blowing over some of the drive mounts, then it was usually an 80mm fan with only room for 2 drives (the other 3.5" drive mounts didn't appear to have any active cooling). The 3700 has the front 120mm fan blowing over a removeable drive cage with room for 5 drives.

Other comments about the front door cover are correct about it not being made of plastic as thick as other Antec cases, but its not that really cheap/thin plastic found in some other cases either. If you plan on hauling the computer to lan parties, etc. then, yes, that door will not hold up and you're better off looking at some kind of case without the door.

Hope this helps.

Well, that's some interesting points. I assume you own a SLK3700AMB. Your space requirements (4 HD's) kind of necessitate a mid-tower. However, as far as overall cooling. I do not own a SX630II (yet) so I don't know about the exact locations fo the fans. But this particular model has TWO fan mounts in the front, I assume both of these are located in front of the internal drive bays. It also contain a side fan mount as well. I would think that this would provide plenty of cooling possibilities for this case. Again, I don't own one, so I can't say for sure. Wonder why Antec doesn't mention the filter and snap-in fan mounts in their description like they do for the SX630II.

Both cases come with a SmartPower (not TruePower) powersupply. The SX630II comes with a 300W and the SLK3700AMB comes with a 350W.
