Didn't have to clip the wire--used the posted diagram to back the pin out of position 10 and sure enough, my front headers started working instantly. Thanks again for the excellent advice.

My D-Bracket is still a little flaky--works sometimes--but I did not remove the pin from that one. If I have more trouble, maybe I will, since it's so easy and not permanent.

Someone with a digital multimeter please check the voltage on the MSI's USBOC pin, relative to the chassis metal, and report what you get. :)

Bad news: my USB's went out again. When this happened the first time, I simply clipped the fatty black wire and all my usb's worked perfectly for like a month and a half. Today I plugged a usb logitech headset into my front usbs on my case and the SAME EXACT PROBLEM is back. I have NO IDEA how, as the problem wire was clipped. I am so extremely frustrated.

I have the Antec Sonata and MSI K8N Neo motherboard with the same problem: the front USB ports don't work. I did what everyone else said and unplugged the brown wire from the USB block and everything works fine now. Thanks a lot guys. I was just going to give up and buy a 3.5" front mount USB box and mount it under my floppy drive. I just saved $15!

Has anyone had further problems after cutting or removing that extra wire from the case's USB connection? I had the same problem we all did and removing that wire brought my case USB ports back to life. :)

That was great but about 10 minutes later my system died and after troubleshooting it a bit I've decided my MSI K8N board was toasted so I will RMA-ing it. :frown:

I have a thread about it going in the motherboards forum but I wanted to see if any of you had any insight or similar experiences, here's a LINK to that discussion and here's my system specs:

MSI K8N Neo Platinum
AMD Athlon64 3000+
OCZ DDRAM 1GB PC3200 400MHZ
Antec Sonata case
Antec TruePower 380W PSU
Seagate 80GB SATA
Western Digital 160GB SATA
eVGA 64MB TNT video card (old)

Just read the manual, it shows the USB pinouts... you should be able to match up the colors on the pins with any luck and if the connectors are decent, you should be able to re-arrange the pins if need be... I can't see this being such a huge problem. my SX600II case came with individual pins, not in the block, and I just referenced the manual and hooked them all up with no problems.
