Antec Sonata III: $79.99 shipped at Buy.com

bah just ordered an Antec NSK6580 Case w/ 430W Earthwatts Power Supply from newegg
How do the 2 compare
I thinkn I would rather have this one

How is the reliablity of the PSU? I've heard the quality of Antec branded PSUs have gone lately. Even assuming it's almost a throw away PSU, the deal seems very good.

I have built quite a few systems using the Earthwatts brand PSU from Antec. I have never had one fail or even give me the slightest trouble. They run cool and quiet and are 80 Plus certified. I think the problems you refer to were either associated with the SmartPower line of PSUs or the Neo when they first came on the market. But the issues were quickly resolved. I haven't heard anything negative about these PSUs in a long time.

I am looking for a case without a door, and will probably jump on the NSK6850 deal. However, if I wanted a case with a door, I would definitely jump on this deal. I have built systems using the Sonata and Sonata II. They are good, well constructed cases and are very quiet.

Thanks OP. I guess I'm in. Good price for a case and PSU.

Edit: Didn't realize this is a mini style case. Hope to go it has room to fit a standard atx mobo and an 8800GS.

Be careful if this PSU is indeed the 500D - it is not the same Earthwatts built by Seasonic. It is built by Delta and there are no reviews out for it yet. the only thing known is that it uses cheaper parts. If it is the old EW 500, then it is a good one. Even so, that is one nice case!

I have a sonata III with an 8800 GS in it. Fits fine. (Actually about an inch to spare so if you manage wires really well you can even throw a fan in).

I've had smartpower 2 450 watt for 2 years. Not a single foul up. My computer is on 24/7 too. I think the earlier models had some quality issues but it was fixed.

Antec case and power supply has been quality and value. You can never go with Antec.

I just bought this for $95 from Newegg a few weeks ago, because I thought it was a great deal. Looks like I wasted some money.

this is a mini case?

Its like 18 inches deep and 17 tall. I think its far from mini, its definitely a full size.

That's what buy.com called it and also the manufacturer.

I have a sonata 2 and I also have a sonata 3. I like the size. fits 3 5.25 drive bays, 2 3.25 drive bays and has room for 4 hdds. I was able to put an evga gtx 260 in the sonata no problem. I did not want to risk it with the 500w ps, So swapped that out with an ocz 600w. The antec 500w ps in the sonata 3 ran the bfg 8800gts video card no problem..

Checked the one I got; it is indeed the 500D, but great case @ good price!
