Antec Sonata: How does the hard drives mount?

from the pictures, it would seem the they mount sideways, does anyone with this case have problems with HDD cable length?

No problems at all. Have 3 hd's in mine right now, with plenty of cable length to spare.
They mount right in front of the motherboard, so the hd's are only a few inches away.
They all mount on rubber grommets reducing noise which I like very much.

With rounded cables, I really don't see a problem. However, with flat IDE/SCSI cables, I see a problem with airflow. I could be wrong though.

Because flat cables run sideways, they don't impede airflow. That's a smart design as opposed to the traditional way of laying out the HDDs.

This just hit me...

What if you want to hook up and IDE HDD and CD/DVD Rom on the same channel? You need to get a new IDE cable wouldn't ya?

that sux 🙁

one of the downfalls of side mounted HDD case I guess

You could just get hard drive brackets and screw the hard drive right under the optical drive.
