Antec Sonata for $59.99 after $30 mail-in rebate

I love my sonata for many reasons. The hdd cage is only one of them; for me I swap drives and this is a very nice feature.

Has anyone used 36" IDE cables if they have a problem? Don't know if it would work, but they are available at SVC.

This is a funny thread....

I have used 36" cables without any problems, although they violate the IDE spec.

m 🙂

I bought one a few weeks ago when it was on sale for $90 with no rebate at the Renton, WA Fry's and the one I picked up had 24A on the +12V.

Also the hard drive cage orientation doesn't cause cable problems if you step into the 21st century and get down with some skinny SATA cable goodness. 😉

You can also keep your hard drives reasonably cool with the Sonata if you add in a 120mm fan behind the cage. As an added bonus, the second fan blows right across the graphics card to give it a little extra cooling as well.

tick tock.... clock is running out on this deal....it's now or never...to be or not to be....is there really a question here ?

Fry's and Outpost have had this case with this same $30 rebate 2 or 3 times now in this past year. Probably a good bet that Antec will have the rebate again. Maybe the case will even drop in price.

I went ahead and ordered one since I need a new case for the system I'm building. For $80 after rebate, it's about as much as the other Antec case I was looking at, so figured why not. 😉

Judging by reviews and posts here I think I'll like it.

I have a Sonata. Great case, but, the 380W PSU is going to get long in the tooth in the not so distant future with the way things are headed. However, this is an outstanding deal no matter how you look at it, no-one can beat the case/PSU combination...no-one. When the stock PSU can no longer run with the big dogs and must stay on the porch with the pups, you can pop in your favorite 550W+ !!!!!

If Antec would come out with a 3700BQE with a 550True in it and was reasonably priced, I'd be all over it like flies on poo.......

m 🙂

I can't see myself spending nearly $70 for a so-so case with 380W PSU and that's after waiting forever for a rebate from Fry's (they're about as bad as Maddog). Side-mounted drive cage could be convenient if you put in and take out your drives several times a day, but who does that? Maybe someone like user1234 who can't put a computer together properly and has to fiddle with it constantly. In the end, you buy a case to house what you have (or will have), and not because user1234 tries to copulate with his Antec case twice a day. If you like it and and think it will work for, great! But to call someone a fool and "behind the times" because they don't like this particular case as much as you do? For you, user1234, I have this immortal quote from Wowbagger The Infinitely Prolonged: user1234, you're a jerk... A complete kneebiter.

Not entirely, at least not for me.

I buy a case depending mostly on it's cost to quality, how well the case is designed with cooling in mind & how loud or quiet it is, how many IO ports it has in front, how many bays it has both for optical & hard drive, how easily accessible everything is, how it's laid out for functionality and finally on how it looks.

There are a ton of cases out there that can get the job done of 'holding' what you're going to put in there and most of them will get you to where you're going, but, how well it does this @ a competitive price point is most important @ least to me.

The included power supply seems to be another point of concern here.... but that deserves another thread altogether. lol

Lets suffice it to say that the Antec PSU's are some of the best out there especially for what you are paying for them when they are included in the case @ purchase. Too many PSU manufacturers over~inflate their numbers to appeal to the power user crowd, whereas Antec has always underated their PSU's consistantly. 🙂

hmmm.... let's see, obviously you have some fundamental intelectual deficiencies - first, it's $60 after rebate, not $70, second it's not a so-so case, it's a high quality case with a normal msrp of $110 (which is what my friend bought from fry's for, a few months ago, and not like another person here which assumed that the retail price is $90). The Sonata may not be a "high end" case, because it's not aluminum, but it's definitely one of the best and most well liked cases in the med-high range. And for the PSU, you must be a complete more on to treat it like a generic power supply, don't forget this Antec is mostly known as one of the best PSU manufacturers, and its 380W is better than any generic 500W+, plus it's reliable and durable. The PSU alone is selling for $60. I guess a lot has been said about the drive cage, so there is no need to repeat since you're obviously not capable of understanding it (probably because of your limited knowledge about building computers), but just get this - this feature is almost unanimously liked by everyone.

What sold me for Sonata is their reputation as reflected by number of stars for their reliable power supply and sturdy casing. Many of the see-through cases were reviewed to have flimsy cases which easily arrived to their doorstep with broken panels, dents, and scratches, etc.

Tracking shows the case has left City of Industry and is well on its way. Hope it arrives in one piece w/out scratch or other damages. Thanks guys for helping me with IDE cable length. I ordered 2 rounded 36" IDE cables as well as additional 120mm fan and 2 fan filters from SVC.

Seems like my MB, CPU, etc. is out for delivery, a day sooner than expected.

yea its a true power, that psu is worth a decent amount by itself. truepower 400's cost like what? 60? and yes, generic psu's *fudge* their numbers. 400-500watts? really? you know how? they measure at low temperatures the thing will never reach unless its sitting in a fridge lol🙂 that and other tricks.

the case is solid and quality. it doesn't have a lotta flash, but it does whats important, its quality, easy to use, well engineered, and quiet. lots of other cases are badly designed or cost cut, cover it up with flashy bits of bezel.

and i'm sure u'll find out that the thing does have a little lighting, the blue leds cast light bright enough to light the wall across a room in the evening.
