The Antec Sonata is avaliable for $59.99 after a $30 mail-in rebate at Fry's Electronics in Sacramento. Happy Holidays to everyone!

UPDATE: I bought one today, 12/21/04, at the Fry's Electronics in Sacramento. They had five left on the shelf, and I think more in the back. They had the rebate form avaliable.

I don't think you can link to fry's...only Outpost...but I may be wrong.

Sweet deal. I've been waiting for this case to have some sort of rebate or discount. Thanks.

I'm on it today 🙂

I got one of these last year when Staples was closing them out. Very classy looking case but a little on the heavy side if your use to aluminum cases. Strong enough for my fat ass to sit on!

i got this case on Newegg back in January '04 for $99 and I have to say this case is sweeeett except for the Antec blowholes... i put a screen/filter there, and so much dust clogs up there.. Maybe when I have time I'll try plexiglass or something...

Sorry, but I think this is a local sale only. The offer is not avaliable online at Outpost.com, at least to my knowledge.

I should probably post this in the rebates forum -

I've been waiting for what seems to have been forever for my rebate to come in from Antec - Fry's had this deal going on a couple of months back, which was when I bought it for 59.99 after MIR (30$). It's been about 10 or 11 weeks and I really miss my 30$ :brokenheart: Maybe I'm being impatient, but rebates have usually come to me within 8 weeks or less. 😛

Still, let me say that this is one classy case - heavy, too, if you don't mind that. Besides, 99.99 isn't TOO bad of a price for this bad boy - ***egg usually carries this for about 98.99 with free shipping while other places range about ~120 as far as I've seen.

Just got this case a few days back for 98$ shipped - wanted a 120mm fan, front usb/audio/firewire connectors, good 350W PS, quiet case, but have already run into problems - the firewire connector is different from the one on the mobo, and what I thought was an advantage the HD cage being turned 90deg is proving to be a problem as I want to fit 4 IDE devices - forum members have suggested putting an HD and optical drive in each channel - there is no way a 18" cable is going to do that - so I will have to use 24" cables. Its not going to be as elegant and organized as I thought.

yo, grampuppy, the drive cage orientation is considered a superb improvement over traditional setup, if you set up many computers you'll know how messy it is to insert a drive over the motherboard. And get it thru your head - this case supports only 3 5.25" drives, and no one in his right mind need more. And btw, it's 380W not 350 - kapish ?

ok, now that we're done with this antec bashing fool, let's move on to the good new - the deal is available in north cal and south cal fry's stores as well.

Just because he finds the case less than ideal doesn't make him a fool. Nowhere does he say his issue is a 5.25" limitation. He merely hints that the orientation is difficult for the cables he has on hand.

If anything you're the fool for acting like a condescending turd in an otherwise civil discourse.

I wonder how many other people think the sidways orientation of the drives is worse ? I doubt there are many.

Okay Mr User1234 here is what I want to do - mount a DVD burner, a CDrom drive and two hard drives - IDE1 to 1 HD (m) + 1 opt drive
IDE2 to 1 opt drive + HD 2 (s)

How would you do this on the Sonata? If you can do this with 18" cables - please attach some pictures

u wouldn't 😛 but it doesn't matter that much these days... small sacrifice. that or get a cheap offboard pci ide from ebay or whatever for 20 and use 4 separate cables😛

a) buy a mobo with 3 IDE connectors
b) use serial ata
c) the sonata case should not be used to house last century hardware
d) I mean, if that's your hardware, why bother buying a sonata, get a powmax instead
e) just use longer cables, and drop this non issue
f) apologize to antec

I think your missing the point here. All he wants to do is run 2 optical and 2 hard drives each connected master/slave to two 18" IDE cables. Which apparently with the wideways cages this is not possible for him to do. He should not have to buy extra equipment, or longer cables which would make the case more cluttered. I mean I am not saying this is antecs fault. Obviously it is, since they made the case, but to most as you said, this isn't a big deal, most people like the sideways cage. This guy doesn't, I don't know why you think he is using last century hardware, did I miss something there? And in no way should he have to appolgize to antec, he has done nothing wrong other then offer his opinion. It is you who should be appologizing to him for calling him a fool, when you obviously have no idea what his problem with the case is.

Do you realize you can mount the drives backwards ? This could sometimes help. But in any case, what's the big deal with using longer cables ? and what's with the 18", 23" or whatever - can't you just buy the length that you need. And most of all, why post this nonsense here ?

This is now at Outpost.com, but not as hot, yesterday the sonata was $89.99 at outpost with no rebate form availble but today it is $99.99 with $30 rebate form. Form is dated 12-17 though 12-23 So if you happened to buy it at outpost yesterday with no rebate your in luck and can get $30. Dont suppose there is any chance of a pricematch to the $89.99 they had it for yesterday is there?

It is quite appropriate to discuss a product's functionality in a thread about buying said product.

I built a computer for someone else recently and used this case and have to say this has to be the quietest case in the world. With one Seagate 200GB HD installed I could not tell it was even running. I have to agree with others that I do not like the Hard Drive setup for this case. If you were looking for a good HTPC case without spending a lot of money, this case is ideal for that purpose.
