Whoa, NOT the place to be selling your stuff, Eric62. Take that to the For Sale forum.

As for the OP, I would have bit on the deal if it had a power supply. Please put after rebate in the title too.

A good price for a very nice case. I bought one last winter and I received by rebate from Antec after three months, which was just about what they said it would take. The shipping is now more than it was last winter, but with increased fuel costs, and costs in general, I think this is about as cheap as we will see this case. I am in for one more. Thanks, op.

And the Corsair VX450 at buy.com for $60 after rebate and free shipping is about as good a deal as I can find on a good PS like you are looking for.

Misleading title.

Change
antec solo 29.99+15.99 shipping+tax
to
antec solo 29.99+15.99 shipping+tax (AR)
or better still
antec solo 79.99+15.99 shipping+tax-$50rebate

AR == after rebate

I just don't share the sentiment that this run-of-the-mill case without a PSU is such a good deal for $45.98+ after rebate.

I think it's a great deal for this price. The quality is top notch and it is really easy to build a quiet system with this case. Compared to the "normal" near $100 price, this is pretty warm.

Of course HOT would be the $30 AR FS that I got one for from Outpost last year. :D

Quiet yes, but...
Don't you find the case a bit cramped, working inside?
I like the fit & finish of the case. But working inside it is very snug.

What makes this a "Hot Deal" is the fact that there isn't a lower price anywhere else for an Antec Solo. If you don't like the Solo, there are certainly other cases that would be more suitable for you. But if you want an Antec Solo, this is a great opportunity.

Personally, I prefer the Antec NSK6580. It is similar to the Antec Solo on the outside, but I think it has a better interior design. It comes with an EarthWatts 430W power supply. There was a really good price for it somewhere in the last two weeks (probably Fry's B&M), but I don't remember the details. I didn't buy one because I already have a couple of unused NSK6500s that I bought for $69.99 plus tax last year. (They have the Antec SU-430 power supply, which is what Antec used before they started using the EarthWatts model.) I think the NSK6580 was on sale for a similar price, which was really good for a case with an EarthWatts power supply, but I guess it's a moot point since the sale is over now.

Blain, you linked to the Antec NSK4480 ("a super mini tower"). I was talking about the NSK6580 ("a super mid tower").

Here's the Solo:

I like the NSK4480 (especially since I usually get them for about $18-25 after tax and rebate). But they are much harder to work with if space is an issue. They aren't as long as most cases (the distance between the front bezel and the rear of the case). They are compact on the outside, and that is one of the things I like about them. But only the top 5.25" drive bay is useable (for all practical purposes), and the video card always interferes with the hard drive cables and constricts the air flow. Also, getting the three-piece cover off and back on again is a pain. But I put up with its shortcomings because I like it. :)

MUCH better :thumbsup::laugh:

unfortunately the solo has much better build quality than the 4480.

the 4480 might be the crappiest built case antec makes. the metal is very flimsy.

Sorry, but it looks like the NSK6580 sux as much as the SOLO on interior design.

So why are you in this thread again? If you dont like the case then pass it, seemed like maybe you had a better case in mind for the price and you don't. I have two of these and they both have been great quiet cases.

BTW the rebate might be a good thing for the title; i was fooled as well.

The Antec NSK4480 is made of 0.8mm cold-rolled steel, which is the same kind of steel used in the Solo (and the P182, etc.). I never thought it was flimsy. In fact, it's pretty heavy for a compact minitower case.

The Solo has sound-deadening material on the side panels, which might make the metal "feel" thicker. And without question, the Solo is a much more expensive case, which also contributes to the feeling that it is a better made case. :)

There's no need to apologize for your preferences.

How about a Rocketfish Aluminum full tower case? That thing is huge. Would it be roomy enough for you? I've got a couple I need to get rid of. :)

i dunno i have had an nsk4480 , and a nsk3480 . they on paper have the same thickness of steel etc, but you can tell the 4480 is just not built as well even compared to the 3480. therse so much flex in the panels and they even rattle if you have a lot of fans. you might be right it could be the sound deadening, but i think also the way the side panels go on the solo is a lot better than the 4480 (4480 has them hanging from the top which i think is why it sometimes rattles)

In my opinion, this is the case to have if you think the P180/P182 is too big (which it is). This is the best regular sized mid tower ever. I have one and I love it. It's a joy to work with. The only downer is that it's difficult to find a card reader that will fit in the 3.5" bay -- because the card readers are usually so short.

Yes, you have identified the reason why it sometimes rattles. It can be fixed by tightening up the tines at the bottom of the two side panels. I also line the holes where the other tines go with small pieces of electrical tape IF I don't plan to open the case frequently (since it makes the panels more difficult to remove).

Also, the side panels flex because there is not enough reinforcement at the edges. If the steel was folded all the way to the corners (instead of having a gap 1" from the corners), perhaps that would have helped.

In my opinion, problems like that are not due to poor manufacturing quality, but rather, they are due to poor design. I realize that's a nitpicky distinction, but I feel it needs to be made in this case. :)

Even so, I haven't found a better case with an EarthWatts power supply for $18-25. It's not easy to find an EarthWatts power supply by itself for that price.

That's extremely simple to explain...
I own a SOLO case and want to give my fellow members a heads-up on what they might encounter, in case they are contemplating the purchase of one.

Ahh ic ic, to each his own i guess... I think its a good design. It has its nitch and its probably not the best case for a top of the line system. I remember people having to dremel some metal out to fit their 8800gtx ultra's in. My water cooling was not the easiest to setup either.

After working on systems like this everything else is a walk in the park! Also, after the initial build, how often do you have to get into there? I upgrade fairly often, and even then usually only get into the case a few times a year. Most people I know don't even peer into their cases but once every year or two.

I don't find the Solo cramped, I find bigger cases have too much wasted space! :D

Maybe your hands are bigger?
