I hate to crap my own thread but I feel the heat coming. Hearing issues with this power supply on the net. I'm giving it a try anyway.

I would not touch it. System instability/dead PSU and/or components after 8-9 months....no thanks.

That'd be true for their old stuff. Their recent stuff like their Earthwatts and Basiq line are made by Seasonic and Fortron.

Avoid the SP2 line. Very low end interior.

Earthwatts, Trio, Basiq, Quattro........Seasonic, Fortron, Enhance built <----these are the Antecs to buy.

Times change...especially in the PC industry. My first 4 PC builds used Antec PS' and I've only had 1 out 4 fail after ~4 years of use.

However, it appears Antec is using "cheaper" suppliers these days (as quoted by others) so their reputation will eventually reflect their decision to use lessor PS'.

Antec Smartpowers are bad enough that i think they should be recalled.

Out of a set of 20 i bought through Ingram a while back, 9 are still working after 5 months.

They are trash.

Edited: didnt specify they were SP2s, not the older SPs.

Wow. I guess I should consider myself fortunate that my Antec 400W smartpower has been going strong in my main system after multiple upgrades, changes, new case, etc... for ..... 8 years, at least... :)

OP - might want to mention that does not include shipping. For $10, I'd jump on this in a heartbeat - better even than those FAR ULTRA PS's, but....... have to add another $12 for shipping makes me a little less "jumpy" :)

...and of course thanks for posting, OP. :)

idk, I bought SP2 500 about 2 years ago. It's been pulling my old rig at first: A64 3000+ 754 @2.4Ghz / 3x512MB DDR400 / DVD+-RW / CD-RW / x850xt o/c / 3 hard drives / Audigy2 ZX (this system was originally powered by Antec 350Watt PS, I had a good deal on SP2 500, so I upgraded). Now it's in: X2 4000+ @2.835Ghz / 2GB DDR800 / x1950Pro o/c / 4 Hard Drives / DVD+-RW / CD-RW / Audigy2 ZX. Never had a problem with it.
My friend had a SP2 550 pulling his 4800+/7800GTX/2GB/2 Hard Drives/2xDVD-+RW for about 2 years, too. Not a single problem.
Maybe the newer ones are crappy?

Smartpowers and Smartpower 2s are totally different.

Smartpowers are fine.

My Antec TruPower Trio only lasted a month after I bought it, Antec refused to honor the warranty because I no longer had the receipt (I paid cash). Hopefully those that purchase the SmartPower are luckier.

I've had problems with two SP500's. My original as well as the replacement. The types of problems were different on both but I know the PSUs were faulty. I will never buy another Antec PSU again.

I bought 2 yesterday. Back when Outpost was hawking the 500 and 600W Ultra supplies for FAR there were folks who ragged on them also. I bought a whole pile of them and use them myself and for builds for others. Thus far none of them have had any issues. I'm guessing these Antec's are 100x better than the 25W POS supplies that ship standard in Dells, Gatways or HP's these days.

That said I may eat may tail on these Antec's, but for $18 each delivered it's worth a shot for me.

Actually the only supplies I've ever had to repalce for people are the truly sh1t brands (Sparkle, Deer, etc.) and my trustly ole $80 Enermax which puked a couple days ago after what, 7 or 8 years of 24/7 operation. Sure hated losing my old friend, but one of those FAR 600W Ultras is humming away in its place and allowing me to type this post.

;-)

People always crap on those Ultra V and X-Finity PSUs. I love them cause they are FREE AR and they run well with all my rigs. Course I don't run Orthos for 24 hour with 50C case temp to test for stability.

the old smartpowers were great. It's the smartpower 2.0's that were crap. From what I've read/heard, the TruePower 2.0's weren't nearly as bad, but there is a higher than acceptable failure rate. Right now I've got a Neo-HE because it came for free in my P-150 case. So far so good. It's gotten decent reviews.

Sparkle, a.k.a. Fortron makes EXCELLENT power supplies. Deer, and Raidmax are indeed garbage, however.

Supplies came today.

Wow, all I can say is outstanding. Relatively speaking they are very heavy. Having to plug in only the cables you need is a big plus. 2 fan design with rear fan only running when needed. Hell, even the power cord is heavier gauge that any other supply I own.

Now the real test comes. How will it perform in real life. Maybe good, maybe bad. We shall see. Hooking it up to a load and scope tommorow to check it out.

All in all very happy with my purchase.
