Hi guys, I've been going through the forums and haven't really seen this topic discussed. I'm wanting to get a OC'd Venice system when they come out, and I was wondering if the SLK3000-B would do the job with a 120mm fan up front and a 80mm fan put into the little vent thing they got in the side of the case. I don't really want to spend upwards of 100$ on just the case.

I agree with JasonE4, silentpcreview.com does claim that the Antec SLK3000B is a very quiet case. However, you might want to wait for the Sonata II (supposed to be available in May).

That's true, however, the Sonata ll will be much more expensive than the SLK3000B, at least for a couple months after it comes out.

If you're getting the SLK3000B, here are some tricks to get you silently going:

- tape all unused holes of the front metal (except bottom air intake of course): it improves airflow from bottom (HDD) to top...
- do some vibration absorbsion on the rear case fan (I did the zip-tie trick explained on silentpcreview), you'll also want to reduce rear fan speed to 7 or 5 volts

And get a good/silent PSU (120mm fan) like the Nexus 4090

I'm currently having a lot of trouble deciding between the CM Stacker for the plusses it gets in OCing and the SLK3000-B for it's price. Could the SLK3000-B be used effectively in an overclocked system (AMD Venice core (guessing it's gonna be like the Winchester core))? Is there a compromise in terms of price between the CM Stacker and overclockability/cooling for the SLK3000-B?

The cooling I'm getting for the SLK3000-B is gonna be a front 120mm intake, a side 80mm intake, and I might mod the top for a 120mm exhaust. I'm getting a Zalman 7700 CU for the CPU and the vid card is gonna be the Leadtek 6800GT with that monster stock cooler they got.

I don't see a reason to get anything other than the cross flow fan for the CM-Stacker.

Thanks for all the options on getting a quieter system going, I'll look into quietPC to keep either case as quiet as I can get it (don't wanna stay awake during the 3 days of burn in I'm gonna do after the overclock since the system is in my bedroom.)

Don't forget Amazon either: http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/de...230464?v=glance&s=electronics&n=507846

I was wanting a Stacker bad too, but after using the 3000b, I am more than impressed. The Stacket addons will add up with the cross flow fan and front fan cage costing an additional $60. That's $230 vs $45. That will go along way toward nicer memory or a video card. After all, a case is only a box that holds hardware, and the 3000b is a cooling performer and that's what matters most....

I don't think you'd have any problem OCing a system using the SLK3000B, especially if you use 2 high power 120mm fans and use a fan controller to crank up the fans when you're putting a load on the system. The CPU duct will also help considerably, and so might a modded 120mm blowhole.

The only problem with the 3000b is that the duct is non-moveable. It lines up acceptably well with my Abit IC7 but my new DFI Ultra-D cpu socket is more toward the center of the board. I eneded up just taking the duct off and putting a silent 80mm fan there. It's working great...

and while i'm being a punk and not doing my own research, anybody got a link/advice about how to go about cutting a hole into a slk3000-b (It's made of steel) for that 120mm exhaust up top?

I've been thinking what I could do with flexible aluminum dryer vent, I'm going to be experimenting soon...

yeah, I'm going for the ocz vx (newegg should have them by the time the venice hits the streets...if it ever hits the street). I've finally settled on the freezer 64 as my cpu heat sink and I'm gonna do an air duct mod to the side of the case on the SLK3000-B (if anyone is interested I could take pics as I'm building it). My only problem right now is that I haven't settled on a 80mm intake that will match the cfm on the freezer 64 (so as not to create pressure issues that would mess with the fan on the freezer 64) without making the case unnecessarily loud. My goal is to get as solid an OC as I can with the Venice core without getting the thing too loud.

thanks alot for the advice guys.

Hello!

I'm going to to make PC upgrade.

Do you think that this Antec SLK3000B case would be better case than my current case Antec Plus1080AMG?

I think that this SLK3000B would be more quiet, because it uses 120mm fans insted of 1080AMG's 80mm fans.

My thoughts right now:

Antec Plus1080AMG(my current case)
+ Very stylish
+ Spacious
+ Sturdy

- 80mm fans
- No grommets to absorb hard drive vibration
- Quite heavy

Antec SLK3000B
+ 120mm fans, very quiet
+ Chassis Air Guide
+ Grommets to absorb hard drive vibration

- Bulky front mask
- Little small/narrow, not spacious

What do you think, is that upgrade worthy?

Any opinions?
Do anyone have firsthand (individual) experience?
