Antec P160s and Thermal Sensors!

i don't have a P160, put I'd place it directly between your cpu, graphics ard and hdds that is usually the average temp of your case

I have the P160 and use one probe as a general case probe to monitor case temperature - it hangs near the top of the case. The other I place deep between the fins of my Zalman CPU heatsink (with Arctic Silver) to monitor my CPU temps. I know it won't give a perfectly accurate reading but it will certainly notify me when things are getting too hot. I certainly would not place a probe between the CPU and heatsink as it will surely interfere with proper cooling. I find the P160 with its 2 120mm fans keeps things cool and CPU temps virtually never get beyond 50C.

I've found those things to be basically worthless. They are good for monitoring hdd temps and ambient temp, but that's about it.

BTW DO NOT TRY THIS YOURSELF, I tried to stick one of those sensors in between the cpu and hsf. It broke the sensor.

My Zalman heatsink left a little free space for me to stick it close to the GPU die on my 6800GT so I put one there and the other is taped to one of my WD Raptors.

I use mine very muc like rforum does above. One is sitting on top of one of my HDs, the other is wedged in between the fins of my Zalman 7000. Something is obviously different about his setup than mine tho, since I regularly get temps of 60C when I'm running EQ2 🙂

He's probably got an Athlon XP or 64.

MDE, you're absolutely correct! I have an AMD Athlon 64 3400+ When I say 50C I am refering to my P160 probe reading from within the Zalman fins - I'm sure actual CPU temp is higher.

No offense g33k but I thought that was the whole point of those two temp sensors in the P160, to monitor the temperatures inside of the case. I have one sitting on the heatsink of my video card and one sitting by my CPU which should be the two hottest areas of the case. I don't have any for my HD since with the front fan blowing across the HD's it shouldn't be a problem watching how hot they get.

I don't use the sensors or that top panel at all for the case. It's pretty much useless...if I want case, CPU, GPU, or HDD temps they already have sensors on them. Besides, IMO it looks like crap and I don't want to have to run a molex up to it. Other than that <3 the case.

Tu13erhead, you're post is pretty much useless. Why on earth did you buy it? I use every bit of that top panel including both probes, USB, Firewire and speaker ports. Not only that, I like the way it looks TAKE THAT!

I'm still debating where to place my two sensors. I was thinking to have one 'hanging' right around the CPU/VC area which is also close to the exhaust fan to see temperatures there. Then another I was thinking of putting it by the intake fan to see what temperature the air is going in and to see how it changes. Although that would be just for speculation, it probably would not help me much. My VC has software temp, I believe my MSI Neo2 plat has cpu temps, i'm not really worried about hard drive temps either as i have never had that problem and this case has excellent airflow.

To add to this my fan controller has four! count it four temp sensors as well.

I swear I saw a guide that showed how to put the sensor between the cpu and heatsink, except i hear everyone else say dont do that. What should I do with these other sensors and has anyone else seen that guide I was talking about with temp sensors?

I dont have that case but I have 4 temp sensors

CPU hs fins
VPU hs fins
RAM
Ambient (by an exaust fan)

My HDs already report there own temp or one or two would go on them.
