which is the best in terms of quality and design (not aesthetics)?


i've only seen/touched the sonata III in person and i thought it was too plasticky, but it seems to be a popular and well regarded case by many.
 
I've built systems with the Antec Designer and Antec Solo. They're functionally identical except the Solo doesn't include a PSU. Pretty good quality cases. They're tanks (heavy). I'm not sure the sound dampening material lining the inside actually does very much, but it doesn't hurt.

The downsides are that some of the longest video cards might not fit, and you'll want to get at least one 92mm fan for the front intake (not included).
 
I built a case using a Sonata III. Pretty nice case. IIRC, it can handle a long video card.
The thing I didn't like about it was the finish. While nice & shiny & glossy, it seems one must wear white gloves when handling the case or plan to spend some time polishing. 🙂
