Antec NSK2400 quiet HTPC computer case: $71 AR at NewEgg

Yeah, it just means you need an MicroATX motherboard, so don't plan on using this case unless you have one or plan to get one.

they're usually not that expensive (top of the line generally hit a high of $100 whether it be AMD or Intel; unless you're looking for a Core Duo/Solo or Pentium M motherboard, which because they're mobile CPUs the motherboards demand a premium)

And most of them are pretty useful for HTPC uses. Generally speaking, most include integrated video (some even DVI) as unless you're planning to use it to game as well, you don't need the graphical prowess of dedicated video card.

There's also a focus on passive cooling on the chipsets to maintain quietness that is a real plus for an HTPC case (I always hated how my XBox1 was so loud, it really kept me from using it as a DVD player because the constant whirr from the fan was so obvious and annoying)

Personally, I'd be all over this deal, but I'd have to get a MicroATX motherboard for my currently unused A64 3000+, but then I'd have an ATX motherboard not being used

What is an HDPC?

Good start is this MSI mATX mobo:

If you read around, you will see that single core and dual core Athlon 64 cpus prices are already starting to drop in anticipation of Intel's Conroe CPU on July 23 and also because AMD has introduced socket AM2.

This is a good home theater forum ( http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/forumdisplay.php?f=26 ), but I would just post your PVR question in the general hardware subforum at Anandtech in the evening during a busy time and see what others say.

EDIT: if price isn't a concern, Google for "Antec Fusion" Same case with VFD display, drive cover, and 430 w psu. To be released in the coming months, but MSRP is going to be around $200.

Meant a HTPC but to record and play HD media.

Yea, that would be a good time or give me a good excuse to transplant my San Diego 3700 if I can find a nice case like this that takes standard ATX mb.

I have this case for my HTPC. I really like it, looks excellent. Would be perfect if they sold silver-plated DVD drives to go with it. Still looks good with black though.

I'm using a MSI K8NGM2-FID motherboard with it (which someone linked to above), the onboard sound and video is fine for HTPC use.

How about: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16827152060

Or does the silver not match (more chromish?).

I bit - I decide to go with the Buy.com deal instead of the hassle of a rebate. The shipping might be slower but no rebate to deal with and I'm too busy to work on it for a couple weeks. Now I need to hunt down a deal on those ultra quiet Scythe 120mm fans and find a quiet Celeron-D cooler (or decide if I'm going to swap in an AMD motherboard for the power saving CPU throttling possiblities not present on the D).

Yeah, I bit on Buy.com deal too. The shipping rate just kills newegg's deal, not to mention I hate rebates.

Going to use this for my HTPC with the MSI K8NGM2-FID and a AMD 3500+ (which just drop to around ~$100 range). Now I'm wondering if this case will accommodate the Zalman CNPS7700 CPU cooler or do I have to get the smaller CNPS7000?

That one would probably look pretty nice. Hard to justify buying a brand new dvd drive just to get a different color though, so I'll just stick with my black one. But if you need a drive, definitely go with that one or any silver one.

Mine shipped already and Fedex says it should be delivered on the 22nd even though I went with the free shipping. Sweeeeeeet. Thumbs up to Buy.com. They do have some good deals when the Visa coupons are out.

I'm with you on buying another DVD drive. I might just need one though so I'll post back if it matches well -- I need to research the quietest drive -- I haven't really watched many DVDs on my NEC 3540 but maybe it is quiet enough.
