It was working fine for 5 days, but last night the comp just went off... ups showed overload and replace battery lights... Im getting a burning smell from the PSU... I tried it with other motherboards, but no luck there either...

Could it be overload? I seriously doubt considering my rig...

any advice?? anyone??

how big is your ups? are you sure it was up to the task of supporting a 480w psu?

I don't think his rig would use near 480w though. There shouldn't be any smells anyhow. He could plug it directly into the wall to see if it works that way.

my ups is apc's 800kva model, it can output upto 530W...
Yes, the smell is coming from the psu... even my engineer smelled it.
Im thinking the psu was a bit faulty.. seriously guys, does my rig have the power to bring this high quality psu to its knees?? not farcing or anything, just want opinions...

Calm down. Your system didn't "overload" your PSU.

Your PSU is, however, dead. More than likely it just overheated, with either a faulty fan, poor ventillation, or just a defective product to blame. Internal shorts, etc can easily overload the board with current and blow the thing.

Just because your UPS says "overload" doesn't mean the system is drawing too much current, it just means your PSU is giving out too much current - more than likely due to internal problems.

I got mine replaced with a brand new one in a day. The guys here are great... BTW what should be the ambient temperatures for the psu to work fine?
