Awesome power supply! I've been running this with a ATI 2900 (which is power hungry), ATI 3850, now a 8800GT. E6600 OC'ed to 3.4. 3 HD's. 2GB of ram. 6 Fans.

They have this power supply at fry's OTD $60 if you don't want to deal with rebates.

I think it's a pretty good deal too. In fact, I'm gonna snag one. Basically same price as the EarthWatts 500W a couple weeks ago, but with modular cabling, better heatsinks inside (based on a review I read about another Neo Power model) and more +12v power (38A versus 34A combined). What's not to like for $35?

I have one that I got as an RMA for my old Smartpower 2 500 and it works great, definitly a good psu for the price. From a little research I did, including talking to johnnyguru, he reccomended the earthwatts 500 over this but only by a little and it was mainly due to the efficiency.

Either way it's a great psu with enough juice to power pretty much any single GPU setup around right now and it's modular to boot!

Once I receive this unit, that will be 6 new Antec PSUs, plus 3 more new ones in cases, plus three actively in use, plus one other used unit. Is that too much? 😕

Huh? According to Antec the EA is 80% efficient and the Neo Power is 85% efficient.

Also, has two PCI-E 6 pin plugs. Don't know if it is SLI "certified" but the combined 38A +12v probably doesn't hurt.

What are you doing with all those units? saving for a rainy day or selling ?
 
After reading that PCP&C, I wonder if people who need the power will consider non-modular PSUs? Personally I like flexibility of modular power supplies, mostly due to the fact that I end up taping all of my unused cables out of the way. This is an issue on newer (bottom PSU mounted) cases (Antec 900 gamer) which leaves you hanging for a place to put the cables.

Don't know what to tell you, just that according to real world test the Earthwatts came out with better efficiency... not sure since I have not done the tests myself, this is just what I was told when doing research into it. If your really curious ask in the PSU forum, thats where I got the info and pointers.

And as for SLI it would probably be able to handle lower power cards paird but I seriously doubt it could do dual 8800 series cards, at least not with any stability. This, of course, is just my opinion but I am basing off of the conclusions thats the EW 500 was generally better than then NeoHE 500 and the EW 500 could not handle the SLI.

BTW, Here is the thread where I got alot of my info from the other posters. I also did some posting on other forums and reading.

Again, I have nothing against this PSU (I have one) I'm just not sure how it ranks in comparison to other Antec offerings in light of some of the research I did. The price is still great on a solid PSU so if modular is your thing then go for it!

Spares, just in case... since one of the local LAN centers closed (they also did repair on the side) I've been getting calls on occasion from local gamers I know when they have computer problems. I've already replaced two PSUs in the past 1½ months (though one had already bought a PSU elsewhere). If it weren't for me, they'd be stuck with going to some of the local shops, or Geeksquad/Firedog. The local shops seem to know what they are doing, but they are a bit pricey and don't carry "good" stuff AFAIK. Basically I'm just helping out the local scene that I used to frag.

A video card that requires a single 6 pin PCI-E plug will only be able to draw 12.5A total (75W from PCI-E slot, 75W from PCI-E 6 pin plug). Two cards combined would be 25A, leaving 13A for a CPU. If you're overclocking a quadcore, then yeah, borderline. Wouldn't be too bad though for something more midrange, such as two 3850 or 8600GTS.

From the specs at NewEgg:

Up to 85%
115V - Full load 76%; Typical load 82%, Light load 77.9%
230V - Full load 80%; Typical load 85%, Light load 79.45%

So it's 85% efficent if your using 230V. Only 82% at 110V. 😉

Still, I was on the verge of a Corsair 520, but not sure it represents $40 more value.
 
I apologize if I have come across as trying to argue with anyone here, I am just reporting what I learned about both PSU's, whether that is true or not. I have both and when doing research into which one should go into my main rig the earthwatts was reccomended more than the NeoHE.

I still plan to use my NeoHE for my HTPC whenever I build it (right now the poor psu is just sitting in it's box) and I know it will be a good one. At this price I am almost tempted to pick up another for a spare but I still have an aspire 500watt hanging around as well so I can't really justify it...

Yes I have and for a spare, emergency PSU it will do nicely (it's the one that comes with the x-qpack2). I have a piece of crap Coolmax 500watt powering my WHS box. Heck, I even have a thermaltake 500watt powering a 4 year old, overclocked AthlonXP rig with a 6800GT and it still works like a champ. There are some things that you just don't need high end equipment for.
