Antec MX-1 noisy?

I just got an Antec MX-1 hard drive enclosure and a WD 500Gb drive. I had done extensive research on enclosures, and decided to put out the cash for the MX-1 for use as an esata enclosure, in part because reviews said that it was silent or near silent.
The silentpcreview.com review said that the fan could not be heard over the hd noise, etc.

The fan in mine is quite loud. Way, way louder than my western digital MyBook external drive fan is. I double-checked by removing the drive and running the enclosure empty with just the fan and it is definitely the fan whirring away, and not hard drive noise.
Like I said, it is way louder than any other external enclosure I have heard before, and the sound gets even louder if you mount the drive on its side using the bracket...

Does anyone else have experience wit this enclosure? I am trying to decide if I should try an exchange for another, or if the MyBook is just a better design...

did you exchange it or end up buying a different kind of enclosure, I just ordered 1 of these, (should be here tomorrow), have been reading a lot of people complaining about it being noisy.
