I've got a $69 giftcard to BB, and I'm thinking about using it on a case. Anyone have experience w/ this case? BB also has the 830, but those are a bit too big for me.

I have it right now... Its a great case, very heavy and sturdy. Compared to computers ive built with enlight and inwin cases, this is MUCH more solid case. It is a tad heavy though. Im actually waiting for my Lian-Li PC65 to be delivered because ive had some cooling problems with my current setup and the weight has become an issue as of recently. If your not going to be lugging the case around everywhere, and if you can get a decent HSF, i would highly reccomend this case. Also, it comes with a 300 Watt Antec PS which has been great for me so far, no real problems at all.

P.S. - If you want to mod the case, id reccomend a metal fabrication workshop with a plasma torch. Thats what i used to cut a window in my side panel. The metal is very solid. 🙂 (I can post some pics if you want)
 
Hey... I have this case right now with my Xp1600+, EpoX 8kha+ system. The case is quite simple, it doesn't have slide rails for the drives, the HD bay is screwless (at least I think so) but it's still somewhat of a hassle. The case structure is very nice, I must agree with that. The casing is durable and high quality. It's sturdy and the case has a nice thin profile. My biggest problem with the case is that the side door is not very functional, it comes with two screws and you have to unscrew them to open the side door (some cases have handles and latches and things). I just keep the screws loose so i can open it up quickly. The SX630 looks a lot similar except has more bays and can fit 2 front fans.
 
I currently have the KS282, no real problems with it, but I'd sure go for the SX630. In fact I'm thinking of getting the SX635 or maybe the SX1040 for my new P4 system in a few days.
 
I went ahead and got the KS282. Deciding factor was that I already had a in store credit card, so I only paid $4 for it. Thanks for the input guys 🙂

Solid case.

VERY easy to work with.

But...


Don't like the 300W antec PSU. Sucks air from the front instead of off the CPU, and Loud.

Fans don't come with the case.
Case is only made for 80mm fans which are not included (you can mod the front but realy no room in the back where you need it for anything bigger than an 80mm fan.

Little holes up and down the case side making controling air flow dificult.

L O U D:
I am using the stock antec power supply and three "quiet" panaflos L1As (intake outtake and CPU) and the case is VERY loud (at least compared to my dell).

Sorry to get in late, but I have worked with 3 of the 282 and 2 of the 800 series cases. The 600 series would be a better case because of added features that the 282 doesn't have. The 600 series will cool better, and probably be more stable on the ground (the 282 is thin). It adds a HD fan. One side on the 282 have holes in it. This works against the best cooling since. The 600 series will move air from the front bottom of the case to the rear top. Both are nice cases, but the 282 is more of a budget case, and the 600,800, and 1000 series cases are more performance minded. I would vote take the 282 back. Once you work with the performance line, you won't go back to those value cases. BB sells Antecs whole line I think, so you should be able to get the 600 series with that credit.

With my black label delta (60mm) that i have on my athlon, i dont ever really hear the PS, so in my case thats never been a problem.... Not sure about the 630 though, anyone know?

Yeah it is really thin but it has lil plastic feat that swing out to keep it stable.

I was looking at the Antec 350 ps at best buy and it looks like a lot better design. Sort of wish I went with the Antec 635 instead but I got a really good price on the 282 as it was a manager clearance ($39)

 
For those w/ the KS282, how do you take the front plastic face off? (in order to put in a 5.25 drive)

I see three tabs on each side that need to be pushed, but that's six total! I'm about 4 hands short. Any clues?

I didn't realize this didnt' come w/ a fan either.....hmmm, maybe I will go w/ the SX630

you don't need to take the plastic face off to put in drives. you just pop out the covers from the inside. 😱
 
I got mine from Comp-USA when they were having a special, it came with an extra case fan. As for the front, push the tabs in at the bottom then pull, work your way up the case... Its a b!tch, but not impossible 🙂
 
The KS-282 may not have as much "geek" appeal as the SX600/800 series, but it is nevertheless a nice case. The flip-out feet keep it steady, and it seems to provide very good cooling with 2 80mm fans. The power supply should be the same one that is included with the SX630/830.
 
I've had both the KS282 and the SX635. The 635 was actually smaller but had more fan mounts. 2 in front, 1 in the rear, and the PSU had 2 fans also. It's not exactly the quietest case, though. The only fans I have is a panaflo on a PAL8045 and the video card fan, aside from the PSU. I'm picky.
 
I have owned a Antec 282 for the past 2 years. It is a very sturdy case, but very noisy. Recently my 300W Antec power supply fan has begun to give up the ghost, so I will replace it with a 300W Enermax power supply tomorrow night. My wife's Enlight 7237 case with same size power supply and the same two 80mm case fans is much more quiet that the Antec case. That said it is also flimsy in comparison. I too would consider moving into another Antec case which might be quieter. If you would like I can let you know how much of the noise is from the Antec power supply. I hope it will improve with the Enermax.

Cases don't make noise. And I doubt whether the Enlight 7237 is damping noise any better than the Antec KS-282; in fact it's probably doing a poorer job of reducing noise due to it's lighter construction. So that noise is originating from something inside the case. The most like candidates are the power supply, CPU fan, and hard drive(s). In most of my machines, the hard drives have been the primary noise polluters. Especially when they're 7200 rpm Maxtors...

I've only seen the KS282 sold with Antec Power supplys, so to say the KS282, especialy the one sold at best buy is loud would be a valid statement, as KS282s do make noise and lots of it.

And while a case just sitting there does not make a lot of noise there are factors in case design that can make a system louder. Such as case could be described as a "loud case" as while not generating the noise, the case is certainly contributing to the volume.

Based on my experience with the KS282 (I have one two feet away do you?) I would say this is a "loud case".

One thing that may be contributing to the noise of the KS282 is the array of holes in the side pannel in the vicinity of the hard drive cages. There are approx 400 holes in each side pannel in the KS282. I don't care how thick or sturdy your steal is, If you put 800 holes in your case, it is sure to let a lil more sound escape than a case with no holes.

While the KS282 is a very sturdy case, and easy to work with, if you are trying to build a quiet computer, you might want to look elsewhere.



 
My Antec KS-282

This has been an excellent case, I use brass thumb screws for the panels, painted it black, lined it with dynamat and riced it out with yellow.
I used tin snips to cut out the stock fan grills and then mounted wire grills, and added the big 120mm fan intake with adjustable rheostat.
The case is easy to work with, not that loud, has a lot of cooling holes.

Do you think I would modify the case to such levels if I didn't like it? hehe

If you read my post you will see that I mention the power supply as a possible problem. I do understand that cases don't make noise, but the Antec case is noisy. As far as the cpu fans and hard drives, both of our machines are running Maxtor 5400 hard drives. I changed out the 80 mm fans and the cpu heatsink trying to reduce the noise in my machine. I am now running a Dr. Thermal TI-V77 on my machine while the wife's machine has a Dr. Thermal with the smaller 60mm fan on it. Both machines are in the same room and if you stand by the wife's computer you can hear my machine, but if you stand by my machine it drowns out the noise from her Enlight. Again I will install an Enermax tonight when UPS delivers and we can see what effect the Antec PSU has on the noise level.

Yes. And I'd say that it's not particularly any louder than any other case. It may not dampen noise quite as much as some cases with heavy plastic side panels, but otherwise it's about average noisewise.

With the default fan? If so, that's producing 40-41dBA alone, and is very probably the loudest thing in the computer. Replacing the PSU will probably have little effect on noise level, since the CPU fan will still be considerably louder than the new PSU.

If you wish to lower the sound level from your machine, I suggest checking out the SVC GC68. It uses an 80mm fan rated at 28dBA. That's 1/16th the noise level of the TI-V77 fan, and less than half the apparent volume. And for even less noise, you can replace the fan with a 21dBA Panaflo L1A.
