Antec case w/PSU

i'd rather have more power on a single rail, so i'm going for this (and plus, it's quiet ;D)

a store near me is selling this for $100 taxed and i'm really considering this case

i have a question though; can this be converted into a 24pin by adding a 4pin connector to the 20 pin? (i read the manual, but i didn't understand it)
my second question is that i will be using:
winchester 3200+
msi k8n neo4 platinum mobo (pci-e)
leadtek 6600gt pci-e video card
an IDE HDD, a FDD, and a combo cdr/rw/dvd drive which shouldn't take up much power

if i decide to overclock a little bit (raising the fsb by like 20mhz), is the PSU sufficient?

The PSU has a main 20pin ATX connector. I am not sure if Antec supplies a converter with it. With or maybe even without the converter, you should be OK with this PSU. It is ATX12V, but it is NOT ATX12V Ver. 2.0, so the converter is definitely needed if your mobo requires the 24pin connection (some 24 pin mobos will work with 20 pin PSU's by simply not using the last four pins--check your mobo manual). You will probably not be able to overclock very far, since this PSU will give you what you need but not much more than that as there are only 18Amps on that single 12v rail. You will have to experiment on the overclocking end of things, but in stock configuration you should be fine. If you want total peace of mind and want to spend more money, then drop more cash on a Enermax ATX12V Ver. 2.0 PSU with dual 12V rails (such as the 485 Watt Noisetaker) or even a OCZ Powerstream (such as the 520 with a single really big 12v rail -- 33Amps).

Very barely with your setup. You will need to experiment and find out. Stock=cool, overclocking=toss-up.

 
but i can get it working stock no problem right? (any non-generic psu with 18amp over 12V should be able to run my setup with no problem i'm guessing...right?)
 
That PSU should be fine, even if you do some light overclocking. Good choice on the case, just built my sis a new rig with one of them.
 
I plan on buying the same case, but will replace the power supply with an Antec NeoPower 480 or Tagan 480 .. haven't decided yet 🙂

This is the True380S model, same as retail True 380 but with single fan (rather than two) for silence.

24A over 12V. That's plenty (i.e. probably you've got 5-6A in reserve at any overclock). This is a high-quality power supply, and it's worth about $70 on its own. It's the SmartPower range that's under powered - the Antec SmartPower 400, has fewer Amps than the TruePower 330.
 
This case/PSU is great. And thelawnet is correct, it now comes with a 24A@+12V PSU. 🙂

Edit: Newegg currently has it for $99 w/free shipping.
 
I don't know how you define 'minor overclocking', but if you intend to overclock I'd suggest you get the optional 120mm intake fan for enhanced air flow through the case.

Looks like a great case.
 
If it makes you feel more confident, I am running a similar setup (SATA instead of IDE) with an additional optical drive, using a 350W rated Antec PSU w/21A@12V and it runs perfectly fine!
 
Keep in mind that the case does not have good airflow. If you can wait for the sonata II, the airflow will be improved significantly. Also, the psu that comes w/ the sonata is not quiet in my standards. Here is a review; notice how the noise is close to 40 dba under a slight load. You can always swap out the psu fan w/ a more quiet fan such as a nexus or panaflo.

Actually, I did check. NewEgg has the case pictured with a PSU inside that has 18A on the 12V rail. Apparently, Antec revved the case and upgraded the PSU and NewEgg is showing a older rev. My bad, 24A is totally fine. This will work great for his setup and allow considerable room for overclocking assuming his components are up to task.

That said, don't assume I didn't do some due diligence before I went and posted. That is YOUR bad.

what can bad airflow (i'm assuming this case has bad airflow) do to my comp?

i know it will increase the mobo/cpu/vid card temperature, but will it increase significantly and what other problems with this case cause?

also, if i don't overclock, will the airflow cause a problem?
 
I have the Same Case and PSU.

Thing to note:

The air intake is quite poor, this can be noted by dust build up around the 'Antec' holes on the side panel and around where the opticals would go. If you are planning on fitting the extra 120mm front then access to it is a pain and a half (use the PSU's dedication fan molex as it's temp controlled through the PSU). However the extraction is very good

The case is one of the heaviest for it's size, but the build quality is exceptional. The front blue LED's either side of the front panel are stupidly bright (and not realy needed IMO).

Instal the HSF before fitting the MB in as the PSU will make it very awkard to fit the HSF.

Value for money this is the best I've ever seen. My next purchase will be the Sonata II as it finetunes the little niggles (no holes on the side panel and a slightly upgraded PSU).

If you want to go a little quiter then get the Acousti AcoustiPack Pre-cut Kit For Antec Sonata

I whole heartly agree with the above - Antec have one of the best reputations for quality PSU's and are often used as a benchmark for other manufactuers to compete against.

I originaly set out just to buy the true silent 380w and noticed for an extra few coins you get the case as well!!!!!!

One last thing the IEE1394 front panel connector for the MB doesn't fit all MB's - so if you want to use it - do a little research.
 
I :heart: my Sonata

the stock PSU fan is however, crapping out on me. the clicking noise on the fan is starting to become more noticable, so i replaced it with a 80mm panaflo 🙂 along with 2 120mm yateloons aka nexus.

I put clear tape across the holes on both sides of the case, so mine stays basically dust free. I also added the second 120mm fan which IMO is a good idea for anybody.
As for the PSU interfering with the HSF, I didn't seem to have any problems with that. In fact I installed/removed my HSF several times when I was having problems without ever removing the MB. Anyways, after covering up the holes and adding the second fan, i find the air flow thru the case to be good, but not great.
Overall, I agree this tops the list for value for your money. 🙂
BTW, is there a link for the Sonata II? I would really like to see it.
