Antec case/ECS Mobo simple wiring questions..

Hello.

Well.. I'm building my first computer from scratch and can't believe I hit a snag where I did. I got the CPU, HS/F on no problem, but I can't seem to figure out what to do with the wiring for the Antec SX1040B case on a ECS K7S5A mobo.

The problem is that the case has a 3 pin connector for the power LED, but the ECS board only allows for a two pin header. I need the other two pins in that series for the power button. Any ideas? I'm sure that someone has come across this before.

Also, it says to have the writing on the Antec plugs to face the front of the case. Do they mean face outward? Mine would face directly toward the bottom as opposed to facing in towards the mobo.

I'm also assuming that any colored wires are positive and any black ones are negative? Just want to be sure..

Once again, sorry for asking this question. I never thought I'd be caught up on this part of the build.

TIA,

Sal

Hmmm, those plugs can be changed for the power button. You have to mess with the connector with a small screwdriver to remove the wire and put it in a different hole. This can be tricky but is very doable. I would just not worry about the direction of the writing a whole lot. Just change them if they don't work. Color can usually be used to assume positive/negative.

Thanks for the reply. What's goofy about it is that the Antec plug for the power LED only has two wires, but it has a 3 pin plug with nothing in the middle hole. Are you saying to move the wire over and have the emptly hole hang off the end? That seems like a possibility. I had to swap plugs one time when I swapped out the fans in a power supply. Hopefully, this wire and little metal connector will come out, so I can move it.

Is there anyone out there that has an Antec case and ECS K75SA mobo? I'm sure that there is. I'd like to know what you did to take care of this problem.

Thanks!

Sal

I usually just take a pair of cutters and cut the power three position plug in two pieces, then just plug them into the two pins. If the power light doesn't come on, reverse them.

I ran into the same situation when I bought an Antec 635 (mid-tower/350W PS) case after christmas, but I just didn't bother with it. the power indicator isn't hooked up. Moving the wires would work, I guess, or you could just cut the plastic connector in half - through that empty center pinhole - and then slide the two wired connections onto the pins.

(edit) gotta learn to type faster. Robsan beat me to it (/edit)

As far as the connector goes I am not sure. I have had problems before where I wasn't able to connect one of the LEDs, I think it was the hdd activity LED. I wish there was some kind of standard for the headers on the motherboard with the connectors from cases.

In answer to your question about which way the connectors should face, in your case, yours would face down. You are probably right about the colored wires, black being negative. Good Luck

it's actually pretty easy to pop one of the headers out of the plastic connector and move it to the center. you've got a 50/50 chance of guessing the correct one! if you missed it, no big deal, just move the one you moved back to it's original position and then move the other one to the center.

btw, i think this is an ecs issue, not antec - every other mobo i've ever had (10?!) has used the three pin connector for the power led and two pin for hd - i think this is so the power led can drive a different color in "sleep" mode, assuming the led and the mobo support the third lead.

have fun - this is a sweet case! ah, i remember when i first got it, as if it were only yesterday ...
