Antec Aria too hot for 9800 pro

I've had the aria up for about a week and the 9800 pro arrives so I install FarCry and begin to play. I get some spontaneous game halts, fatal exceptions, blah blah. Install the farcry patch and try again, still the game hangs or ends abruptly after 10-15 minutes of play. I install asus probe for the P800-vm motherboard and discover that after the crash I'm at 63 on the P4 3.0 and 45 mainboard temp.

I'm assuming that the 9800 pro can't handle the heat. I have the agp card, a wireless card and then the ARia slot fan cramping up that area pretty completely so there is little to no airflow in the case.

I have the Zalman 7000 HS and fanmate runnint a stodgy but quiet 2445 rpms.

I'm beginning to wonder if the aria can keep this rig cool or not. It's quiet but I'm not sure I can live with FarCry at 800 x 600 even though the graphics are still good.

BTW, I downloaded Riva Turner *Tuner?? but have no clue on how to underclock my 9800 pro so it won't overheat.

I'm not quite ready to give up yet. I shouldn't have to underclock my vid card to get satisfatory cooling in this case. There ought to be some other method to get the thing to cool better. I even tried taking the sides and top off for gaming but it still failed after a shor while on FarCry.

I have a Sonata but gee, I just dumped a couple hundred into this setup so it would be small, unobtrusive and quiet. Guess you can't have it all? I guess I could mod the side panels to put panaflos in but that also kind of defeats the purpose.

I'm still looking for solutins,

My 9800 Pro worked fine in a SFF shuttle for 2 weeks, played farcry and UT for hours just fine. Does the 9900 Pro work fine in other comps? could always rma it...
 
Kinda shy on pci slots. I have a wireless card, the slot fan and the agp card. I am starting to think that maybe it's power? Can the psu deliver what the card needs to perform?

I'm not getting any heat related artifacts, just the game stopping and returning to windows.

Hmm.....still thinking....

That would be a fantastic idea for a case with little airflow, since it would move some of that heat out the back of the case.
 
OK, that's something to consider. What about power? Could I be looking at a power outtage/brownout to the card? Does the card require a PSu that I don't have? I think the Aria's PSu is only 300w. Is that enough?

Hey all..

I have an antec Aria with a 3000+ and a 9800 pro and i NEVER had the problems you had. I played Far Cry, UT2004, everything. I do however have an SLK-800U heatsink on my CPU and my temps reached past 60 degrees on load! I just wasn't confortable with that, even tho i NEVER had any problems with the system locking up or games crashing.

So.. today, I bought a 3 inch hole saw from Lowe's (had a giftcard) and went to my dads shop and drilled a 3 inch (76mm) hole on the right side of the case. It fits just above my ram, below the drive bay bracket, and to the left of the cpu. now shes running happily at 47 degrees load with prime 95 running.

I'm gonna take pictures in a lil bit and post them. I haven't drilled screw holes yet cuz i wanted to see how it fits, but everythings taped on currently..

Hope you like it. So it works. And I imagine it will solve your dilemma as well. Not sure on how easily you have access to power tools like I did, but this was the cleanest and safest route to go for me.

The stuff inbetween the outside panal and the inside panal is about 3/8" plastic, it was nasty to cut through, but did none the less.
