Antec 900 & P5W

Hi
,

I'm looking to put an asus P5w DH into an Antec 900, however looking at the rear of the Antec 900 online and comparing it to the Asus P5W pics it looks like that the I/O ports of the MB will not marry up to the rear of the case. Can someone let m know how these two go together before I order them please?

Thanks,

Troy

Thats why the rear stock i/o that comes with the case is removable and the one that comes with the motherboard can be put there instead.
Is this the first time ur building a computer?(no offense intended, just curious)

Hoped that might be the case. Nope, this isn't the first one, just that I haven't built one in a while,

Cheers,

I installed a P5W DH in my Antec 900 and wrote a short review. Worked great!

Here's a link to a thread here where it was discussed ... Link

And here's a link directly to the review ... Link

Good luck!

BJP999,

Thanks for your reply. One thing that was not too clear from your review is whether the leads (USB, Audio, etc..) from the top of 900 case are long enough to plug into the P5W DH MB, are you able to confirm that either they can or cannot please? If they cannot, is it possible to get "extension" leads for these please?

Thanks,

Troy

If you keep the cables running over top of the MB, as is intended, my guess is that everything will reach.

I ran my cables behind the MB tray, so had some reaching challenges:

The front panel switch wires (power, reset, led) were not quite long enough. I spliced a piece of wire in line to extend.

The USB WAS long enough, but just barely.

The firewire was definitely too short. The MB firewire connector is at the far bottom corner of the MB. (I have an add-on sound card with firewire, and am not using the MB firewire).

The audio cable is too short to reach my add on card, but I think it would reach the on-board audio connectors (didn't try).

As for extending the cables, I'm not an expert. I was okay soldering the basic power and reset wires, but the USB, Firewire, and audio cables would likely be more finicky. You may be able to buy an extension cable, or check with Antec to see if they have any suggestions. If I needed something longer, I'd probaby try to find a single longer piece and solder back at the source (right behind the connectors), rather than trying to splice these it. I'd also use silver solder.

Good luck!
