I'd like to get a new power supply for my soon to be here P4 1.6A with MSI 845 Ultra mobo. I'll have 4 hard drives, a cdrw and a DVD-R with a GeForce3 Ti500 card. Will 330W be enough or should I do the 400W? Is the True Power that much better?

I assume you are going to overclock? If you are, and to make sure your power supply isn't holding you back I would go with the 430w True Power. It will be future proof too, you never can have too much juice :)

That might be cutting it close. I would go for the 380 or 430 true power.

I am running 3 120mm case fans, 2 80mm case fans, an athlon 1.4 tbird, 1 hd, 1 cdrom, and 1 cd burner all on a 300W psu and I have no problems. I don't argue with getting a 400W psu but if you don't want to spend that much on a psu then I'd say go with the 330W

I run a True330 on my 1.6A @ 2.3. I have a CD, DVD, HD, GF3, etc etc (see rigs). Works just fine.

My Antec TRUE 330 is carrying a P4 1.8A at 2.4GHz, two hds, two burners, and no stability problems at all. Extremely quiet!

I DID just get off the phone with Antec regarding the "Fan Only" leads. The literature provided indicates you can run a total of 3 fans in any combination off those leads. Negatory - They now say a maximum of two fans, one per connector. I had three fans on them and they simply did not run at all. Antec person said they will be changing the literature.

Do you know if this is true for the 430 watter?

Also, what type fans were you trying to run? I'm sure you could do more than 2 if they were lower powered ones.

- just curious here, a friend of mine is about to purchase one and was planning on using the fan headers.

question about case fans connected to the "fan only" leads:

do the fans have to be antec smart fans or can they be any old regular fan?

Antec Tech just called me again - 3 times today - WOW! Anyway, a bit of further clarification to the fan only leads and the use of fans. If you connect three "standard" case fans (and I would take this to mean three 80mm fans not of the stealth, silencer, etc. variety) then the circuitry should be able to handle them and function to reduce noise. If you are installing stealth types (silencer, stealth, ??) which are already designed to run at reduced speed, the noise reduction circuitry will not work properly and you should simply connect those types to a normal 4 pin molex connector.

I do hope this is as clear to the rest of you as it is to me.

edit: I think this would be a great time for AntecCSR to interject some really clear guidance on the use of the "fan only" connectors. Your tech has me so confused that I'm not going to use them at all. I was using three PC Power & Cooling Silencer 80mm fans and he said that was the reason my fans simply stopped running????

edit again: make that FOUR calls today from Antec. Last call from a nice, oriental-sounding person that wanted to make sure that I had gotten a satisfactory answer. He basically echoed what I typed above. I suggested CSR posting here to clarify this and he said they would do so. Me thinks Antec takes customer support very seriously.

Don't use 'Smart' type fans with the 'Fan Only' connectors. They're designed for standard 4-pin fans.

I would have responded earlier but I was in LV for a friend's bday.

Would the Enermax manually adjustable 80mm fans be OK with the fan only connectors. I am planning on hooking 6 of these up to the fan only connectors on the True 430, can they handle these fans?

Skawttey, my impression is those fans would be okay IF they were at full speed setting. But not 6 unless the 430 has twice as many fan only connectors. Limit of 3 fans on the 330's fan only connectors (2 on same feed).

Maximum number of standard 80mm fans is 3. Even then we are going to do some additonal testing here on that. We've found our SmartFans work but the guys in the lab don't recommend using them with the Fan Only connectors.

Whatever you do, don't use 6 fans on the 'Fan Only' connectors.

I have no idea about the Enermax fans and I don't know when or if we'll be testing those.
