I have one of these monsters, and I'd like to know if I can put a fan controller in my 3.5" bay and still close the door? Currently I have a lite-on dvd\cdrw that sticks out about a quarter inch too far, so the top of the door doesn't latch. If I put in a fan controller up front, would the knobs keep the door from closing? I could find any dimensions, but this is the fan controller I want:

PS. Any way to fix my cd drive sticking out?
 
I have an Antec 1080 case as well as a Chieftec dragon case which is about the same.

I don't see much problem in putting one of those fan bus controllers in a 3.5" bay cause there is a bit of space between the door and the drive housing so it shouldn't touch.
There is a long plastic mold inside that crosses the drive bay but even then it doesn't look like it would touch the few mm extension of the fan controller.

You have your cd drive on rails right? if it's only sticking out a quarter of an inch too far, try adjusting the rails until it fits correctly. My drives don't have a problem with either case.
 
I don't think the 3.5" bays have the drive rails. There is a lot of room between the case and the doors. I really wouldn't see that it would be a problem. The only thing that should stick out would be the controll knobs, and they are going to be only about 1/2" deep.
 
Can't you just grind off the ridge in the affected area with a dremel or cut it away with an x-acto knife or something?
 
I have a Zalman fan controller in the top bay of my AMG 1080. Fits JUST right. Not too far out, not too far in. I don't think I have much clearance left. Use the Zalman as your reference. I think the Vantec fan controllers may be bigger. Let me know if you need a pic.

He had originally stated that his dvd/cdrw was sticking out and that is a 5.25" drive bay.

First, are you using the plastic rails that come with the case? They are stored at the bottom of the case in slots.
Use these and then just adjust enough so that the drive sticks in more and gives you more clearance.

It's true the 3.5" drives don't have rails, but you could probably grind down the ridge on the inside of the door with a dremel or a knife like was mentioned for your fan controller.
