Ante 1200 for Dual Xeon?

Says right in the specs list at the Egg: ATX only. I always thought it was stupid to design a case that large and leave EATX mobo capability out, but there you go. The Ultra m998 is a decent case that supports EATX mobos - too bad the price has gone up considerably since Christmas. What array of drives do you need space for? I have a Chenbro/Alienware workstation case that has plenty O' mobo and card room, but can't hold a lot of drives. Either four 5" bays or three 5" and one floppy bay via a bay converter (included), and 4 HDD bays (w/ rubber bushings). I might be persuaded to part with it. ;-) Here is a link so you can see what it is:
http://digitalproducer.digital...ewarticle.jsp?id=35347 My system is currently in a Silverstone Kublai KL03 which I like a lot. It has EATX mobo support, 4/2/4 drive bays and a unique HDD cage that can be made hot plug/swap if you want with about 20 bux worth of optional connectors (one connector comes with). I also like the XClio WT(WindTunnel)/Tagan Monolith (both basically the same case) and the Gigabyte Aurora 3D 570 (this on has EATX support - 570 is the length of the case (mm, abt. 23" deep) that allows for it. I don't think I've seen a case under 21" deep that'll hold an EATX mobo. The Egg also has some pedestal server cases like the Alienware workstation case that will hold EATX. Search the Egg on EATX and you'll find MOST of the cases that will hold one, but the Egg's descriptions are so inconsistent that some won't get found in that search. The Antec Titan series of server/workstation cases also handle EATX. That should give you a start in your hunt. Ooops, I seem to recall that the Enermax Uber Chakra is just taller, but not much deeper than the standard, ATX-only, Chakra - check just to be sure.

OTOH, the DSAN-DX is less than one inch longer (at 10.5") than standard ATX (9.8-10"), while EATX is 13" long, so yours may squeeze into an ATX case, but you'll have to support the last row of mobo holes with modified standoffs. I cut the bottom nib off the old-school, nylon standoffs and use them for extra support on most of my mobos. You could also use the standard m/f threaded metal standoff except upside down with a nut on the male thread to hold it in place while the bottom of the supports would just rest on the mobo pan. You can tell if there is enough clearance by looking at the last row of standoff holes (toward the front of the case) in the mobo pan (for std. ATX, those are just 9.5" from the rear edge of the mobo). If you see an inch or so of clearance past those, then your DSAN-DX could fit with a little cleverness.

.bh.

PS: I just looked at the gallery of 1200 pix on the Egg and it looks like there would be room for the mobo, but you may have space conflicts between the coolers on the CPUs and optical drives in the upper bays because the PSU is at the bottom, but you may be able to shuffle drives around to make room - the HDD cages don't HAVE to be at the bottom, etc.... Most mobos would have the memory sockets back there, but yours puts the CPUs at the rear. .bh.

Well, at this point I really don't see a lot of good server case options for me (Designer so, form and function matter *grin*). Also, it looks like a dual 2.83 quad would run me close to the same price as a MacPro so, I would probably just do that.

thx,

-mx
