On that system with the CLI client I would expect times around the 3:20-3:30 range. Here are tips for getting it running as fast as possible:

1. Use the CLI client it can be up to 40% faster than the GUI client.
2. No screensavers.
3. Turn all power saving options off such as hybernate and turn off hard disks. Turn off monitor is fine since it doesn't effect performance.
4. Set the CAS latency of the RAM as low as it can go and run stable. This is found in the BIOS.
5. If you are an overclocker SETI loves as much FSB as you can give it.

Well I've got my wu's down to 4 hours now, so I think that is fine for now thanks Assimilator, youve been a great help, as have the rest of you guys, you rock :D

PS: Just gone up +115 places so far today in the AnandTach's stats sheet, hehe, aiming for 6 wu's per day from 1 pc (I leave my pc on 24hrs a day)

Glad you got the average down :) This still using the GUI? I'm sure after a little while you will feel the need for stats and will convert to the CLI, but just enjoy the GUI for now :)

Good luck in getting the computers at work running, but remember to get full written permission from the top, and if i were you i'd just run a small trial on say 10 machines without telling the workers anything and see if they notice a slowdown. If they do, then see if you can find another project to run on those machines that won't interfere :)

Welcome to the Team, by the way :)

Thanks man, yeah, it is running the GUI, but minimised as suggested :)

I will also run a test, as you suggest (to trial the downloads if nothing else), because lets face it, 700kb data file downloading over 100 or more machines at one time would slow the network down one heck of a lot... (parts of the network are still 10Mbit, although the CAD designer office itself is linked through 1Gigabit to the servers and backbone).

I thought the data files was 351 k in size and if you put it on your work pcs you need to talk to some of the guys running it at work like Robor, Ijump , LastKnight, or indyjaws as they can help you with the best way to run it without overloading your network.

A wu is 350 KB download. The result is much smaller, with the average under 5k, so uploading results shouldn't be a problem.

Probably the easiest setup is to install SetiQueue on 1 machine, and get all the other machines to use this as a cache. Setiqueue is easy to setup, and you can choose then it shall download new wu, so aim for a time there's little net-traffic.
