Anoying username dialog on Youtube

Anyone else keep getting this at random?

It's freaking annoying. The only way to get rid of it is to refresh the page. You also cannot comment (or accidentally click anywhere around the comments) or upload videos.

I've gone through that stupid wizard countless times but it just keeps coming back. This appears to be a javascript thing, is there perhaps a way I can just block it?

It asks me that every now and then. I just say "I don't want to use my full name" and it goes away.

I have a feeling it will become mandatory eventually.

I seldom login due to that. I shouldn't have to worry about clicking the wrong thing when using a stupid video site. If it becomes mandatory, I'll close out my account. I'm almost done with Google anyway.

YouTube has gotten really good at recommending videos. I log in just for that.

I've never used that. I either go via link, or look things up on my own. Youtube provides nothing for me other than a searchable repository of videos. I'm not interested in other features.

I would normally agree, but I started noticing recommended videos that were really specific to my current interests. For example, I've recently been interested in learning woodworking joinery and YouTube has been suggesting some great woodworking videos about joinery. They must be incorporating my searches into the recommendation engine.

Its one of Google's way to try to combat Facebook, by making your profile with "REAL NAME" interconnect with all other Google services so it is "harder" for you to quit...

That's disturbing :^D

It's also a way to combat the low quality of YouTube comments. People are less likely to be asshats when their real name is being used.

You can fake a realistic name very easy. I made a fake one real quick on facebook once just to see if I could find someone in particular.

Blocking comments completely would be a feature I'd use. I've been meaning to try doing it via script. Less clutter and garbage to load.

Actually the comments are sometimes actually useful and mature, when looking at more technical videos, once you get past the Chuck Norris jokes. 😛

The recommendations actually ARE kinda accurate, I don't know if that's good or scary. 😛

I kind of wish there was better video sites out there but youtube seems to be the most popular so it has the most content. Would it be illegal to make a website that loads youtube videos in it's own interface? There are mobile apps that do that, so I have a feeling it would not be that hard to do.

I've tried to make a fake username but it wont take anything, always says it's invalid. I think it wans my actual real name. Wonder if I change my gmail display name... that might work. I don't actually use gmail anyway.

There appear to be several Chrome add-ons that hide YouTube comments. I'm sure there are add-ons for other browsers too.

I was oldsmoboat for the longest time. Then had to pick some channel shit. I am now "wtfthischannelshit"
